Might not want to filter out D I C K as a curse, It's mean to people that are named it. Plus it gets in the way of tons of other words and phrases that contain the word. Besides dictionary.com doesn't define it as a curse or something inapropriate right off the bat: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=@#!*
EDIT: Oh my god.
hmmm... if you come from S@#!*horpe are you done for?
*EDIT*
yes.
Along with the company matsu@#!*a (and a lot of other japanese words)
If you want to talk about the Cu@#!*es, the Cu@#!*ic langauges or people with ha@#!*oxicosis you're done for also.
and what about if your talking about mi@#!*s?
Heh, the link to dictionary.com got filtered too. :)
But why filter @#!*? It's not that bad, is it?
But why filter @#!*? It's not that bad, is it?
I would say no, but you could have secretly said the f word without me knowing. I don't think any swears are bad at all, they're just words, to quote George Carlin. It's the context that makes em bad.
d i c k
Is not swearing. It's in the dictionary for christs sake. Unban this word. It's a legitimate word.
It means:
Shortened version of detective, a person who is seen to be behaving foolish, a persons NAME, and finally it is rarely used as slang for penis, which is also a legit word.
And what is absolutely effing STUNNING is that they haven't banned the word penis but have banned d i c k.
Oh please? how silly can you get?
Jesus had a @#!*.
Somewhat ironically, the word
bush isn't.
I guess BRL isn't an equal oppertunity censorer. :o>
just getting worse and worse around here isn't it?
just getting worse and worse around here isn't it?
@#!* head.
just getting worse and worse around here isn't it?
Thats the understatement of the year.
just use more creative phrases like phallus face or flap monger, or better still, don't insult anyone.
Po, I think you're right. In order to get this sort of thing right it takes time. I'm sure some words will be added, others removed.
The swear word filter has only been in place a few weeks and therefore, like any new piece of code, will have a few issues here and there.
Surely the filter just has to look for either a space on either side of the word or punctution but I guess that wouldn't prevent long strings of swearwords. Maybe it's best to compare the word it's part of to a dictionary of normal words containing substrings that are swearwords.
There's a filter?!
@#!* @#!*
...cool
Yah, I don't get why people haven't realized how to properly set up a filter.
Look at this forum:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=400102&f=7071093262This forum is meant to be a fairly official sort of Myst community... it's nearly impossible to use though, because every other word you write has part of it censored. So not only does it not check if the curse is just a part of a word, but it also is incredibly strict. You can't say "wristwatch" without being censored.
ooooh sswift you are in for it now.... you linked to a nasty evil picture with the word c oc k in it... shammmmmmme on you.
@#!* is a normal german word and means fat.
If you eat too much sausages you will get @#!*...
This thread really has no where left to go, so with that im locking it.
Please keep in mind the word filter is still a little w.i.p, so might or might-not change in the future.
