EG Heightmap companion is the easiest way to create realistic colormaps for large heightmaps, load anywhere from 64x64 to 4096x4096 , pick six textures to blend into the map, select a light location if you want to lightmap, and generate a rich colormap! , You can also select colorband images that will stripe horizontally across steep slopes to simulate mineral layer growth. Colormaps can be saved in easy to use BMP or Compressed DDS formats

Included with the software you get over 80, 256x256 insert textures, and 5 colorbands. But can use your own with ease.. just click on the image you want to load a new texture for, and browse to the new texture to use for it. You can also save/load any combination of textures and settings so you never have to redo your favorite setups.
