ATI makes pre-2xxx GPUs legacy
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/ATI makes pre-2xxx GPUs legacy
ATI is moving all cards before the 2xxx series to "legacy" status at the end of the month. Read about it here:

No great loss.
Doesn't really matter, they're still getting driver updates, just less frequently (which is fine, there's less to update for those cards now). Not like they've made any good cards since the 9700 anyway.
Obviously they can't say "we no longer support these cards", but it means they will get ignored.
Greeeeeat. The card from my laptop, which I purchased brand new 1 year ago, is now legacy?
Never going to buy anything ATI-related again :P
That'll give you a handy excuse not to make anything work for them then.
Hell yeah. Not like there is anything I can do anyways if the driver is broken.
Their drivers for newer cards have actually gotten pretty good.
According to your other link the main difference between them is that for the 'current' cards they'll release new drivers on a monthly schedule and for the 'legacy' cards its quarterly -- they've hardly given up on them completely.
Probably there won't be more than a few quarterly updates. They'll still receive hotfixes, but have clearly been put on the backburner and will be eventually dismissed.
Nothing out of the ordinary though, more of a service notice than anything else.
Don't really care much about it.
