somebody stolen my credit card data to buy on WOW

Yes, somebody, somehow has stolen my credit card data and has bought a wow character transfer and wow licenses. All in all about 200€. Does anybody if this can be related to any spyware or something?
The datada I've been stolen has only been used from my macbook pro to make some online shoppings at grey allien games and iTunes store.also I think I put there the info to become a xbox gold member.

does anybody know anything else about this, or has experienced the same?
I've never played, downladed or even visited anything related to WOW or Blizzar

I've denounced it to the police, and I'm going to the bank tomorrow morning. I've also disabled the creadit card. But I'm worried how this could happen.

Yeah its possible. Spyware/keystroke logging programs etc are easily capable of grabbing data from right under your nose. Its one of those things that you only think happens to other people... until it happens to you. Credit cards are very easily cloned these days.

I'm sure your credit card company insures against such things so you shouldn't lose out in the long run.

Change all your passwords for everything now.

I do not know much about Mac OS threats like spyware or viruses.

I do know Windows related spyware can do that. Do you run any Windows OS on your mac book? If it's WinXp, you might need to install some decent antispyware like Spybot S&D.

If that is not the case, you you connect to any WIFI hotspots outside your home?

Or, is your home WIFI setup secure?

A few months ago someone nabbed $2,000 from me via paypal. I got it back but it took 2 weeks.

I recently had loads of internet activity from the process msfeedssync.exe, it seemed to be continuously up/downloading data, lots of data. This worried me as it's never done that before and I have rss feeds disabled in my browser. So I nuked the file and I've been monitoring my internet traffic ever since.

It doesn't necessarily mean that it got stolen on your end, or the website that you purchased from: when you charge a creditcard, you give the number to the other party. Whether it's a website, or your local gas station, a restaurant, etc. These places will submit the card information to a payment processor (typically a bank) which actually processes the charge and moves the money around.

Over the last year or so several of the large payment processors have been hacked into, leaking a ton of creditcard numbers. My bank sent me a new creditcard a week or two back because the old one was 'potentially compromised' during a payment processor break-in.

It really sucks, but there are a lot of entities involved in those kind of transactions, and you have next to no control what happens at the 'in between' stages... :-/

The one advantage of a creditcard is that they typically have fraud protection, so you can dispute invalid charges like this, and normally get them dropped. With a debitcard you're screwed.

The following one seems to originate from France so it looks like your details have been stolen, then sold/passed around.

If you ever pay online, check with your bank if they do electronic debit/credit cards. I use Swedbank in Sweden and I can log on to my "ekort" internet banking and create a "virtual" credit card that I personally set the limit of. Ant the card is also only valid for one transaction.

Paying for so many things online I am very happy about this method and feel quite secure.
