OK, that took longer than expected! Sorry to everyone for the long downtime, but we're nearly back to normal now. Things will probably be a bit out of whack for a few more days yet while we gradually put everything back together again.
We're back...
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/We're back... Why was the site down?
the site was hacked, as far as i know
Good to see you back up and running.
Great news.. what was the level of the intrusion?
I hope you find those responsible and carry out castration upon their person with a rusty pair of garden shears.
"the site was hacked, as far as i know "
how would you know the site was hacked?
also what was changed about the site? were there any major improvements? or is it the same?
I was worried for a while that the site wouldn't come back up like many have done. There are so many great and creative pieces of code here it would be a pity if it were lost.

Well done for fixing it. May the hackers be cursed.
It's funny that the forum says the last post was by Nobody 2009 years ago lol.
One cool thing is that this site works really fast for me at work whereas it was unusably slow before.

Glad its back, I would fry the culprits
Looks pretty much up-to-date for the point of downtime - must be minimal lost of posts (if any).
glad your back (;-)
2009 years ago? I wasnt even born then! Welcome back Blitzbasic and everyone too.
back, but not error-free back.
On the main forum side
http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/_index_.php
there stand on the most "Last Posted" sections: "Nobody (2009 years ago)".

Did you read the notice on the main page? Glad to see BB up and running again.
I do have a question though : Was any sensitive data stolen, like our BUID's, email addresses, account information?

Good question.
I'd assumed that it moved servers -- there was a 'down for maintenance' notice, a day later the DNS server didn't resolve, and then some flakeyness jumping back to past information which seemed to look like multiple database restores...
I do notice that going to ones profile and clicking on the link to view your older postings doesn't resolve properly now.

Looks like the .com is down - I sneaked back in on .co.nz.
ditto
Good to see the site's back up. I was really bored..
I'm glad the site is back up!
I actually worked here at work the last couple days because I couldn't come and browse these forums.
Aye, blitzbasic.com is buggered, blitzbasic.co.nz works though..?
Wait a minute, 2009 years ago .. that is like when .. so there were like shepherds laying in a field, using laptops to log in to bb.com's General Help section, when all of a sudden they hark the angels voice sing ?

No we don't believe so. Certainly there's no need to worry about passwords, as we don't store them - just an encrypted hash.

Yep silly post Si bad boy.

...except those are trivially easy to crack if people used a dictionary word, depending on the algorithm used.
Yay !!! :)
Site looks like it is back to normal, after having a good sniff about.
Not that i know anything about website creation.
LOVELY.

I was telling my job interviewer about Blitz Basic and he hadn't heard of it before so I gave him the url.. I hope he didn't follow it until now lol
Thank God we're back.
And good job bringing it back.
I assumed it was down/hacked because of the old news on the frontpage maybe the result of an older backup?
*does the drinking happy dance*

mysql_real_escape_string anyone? =p
People might suggest a new, more secure forum...but please leave it as it is. While PM's would be a godsend, this forum is so simple that the loadtimes are worth simplicity. No need for bloat!
Sorry to hear about the hack anywho - any hair left?

welcome back!
phew! I definitely have to make my full copy of the code archives asap.
it's good to be back, congrats Si
Just for curiosity (...I doubt I have an answer, but I will try!)
What is the kind of 'attack' and what is lost/taken?

"Well done for fixing it. May the hackers be cursed."
Without doubts they/their could be cursed by now, after all it was a "Holiday! on Brazil and other places. Check the Wikipedia and Encarta entries about the countries on the South America.
I found something about black hat "hackers" (Crackers). Also something interesting, "Cracker", sometimes "white cracker"!

Yes, it seems to be sad but there should be a lot of "crackers" out there ...
I just tried to update this
http://www.blitzbasic.com/codearcs/codearcs.php?code=2405
I could neither edit nor download, both results in an errorpage.

I also cannot download code archives, and I do get error messages on editing (but it actually edits it).
Nice that you got this back.
What exactly was hacked? Forums only... or everything?

Is it just me or is www.blitzbasic.com having problems with cookies? Everytime I log in, it says successful then I'm forgotten again the next time I click a link to something. I'm sure it's probably just me but thought I'd ask...
www.blitzmax.com is working fine though...
www.blitzmax.com is working fine though...
the cookies don't transfer among the different domain names, so for all the links to work properly you need to log in on www.blitzbasic.com / www.blitzmax.com / www.blitzbasic.com.nz
Alternatively people should provide relative links (that is without the domain name), or the forum software should rewrite them.
Nothing to do with what I said. When logging into the www.blitzbasic.com site, it goes to the screen that says login successful, then when I click on anything else, it goes to the default skin and instead of saying 'Welcome Hotcakes' in the corner, provides the Login or Sign Up link again...
I tried clearing my cookies to no avail... No biggie, can use another domain just fine, just wondered if anyone else experienced it, which I'm guessing not.
