If you want to crank the grass density up like I have here, edit the "Maps/island.sbx" file.

Wow, what happened to that poor guy's arm?

The over-use of bloom filters gave him a nasty sunburn.

-All bugs on ATI drivers fixed.
Except for the bug where the sandbox runs at 30fps (and is super laggy) when nothing is open, and 0.07 fps when the island map is loaded.

There are a large number of other glitches/strangies in the engine too.
Lights sometimes have a bounding box around them, sound does not repeat correctly (in 'Example.exe' - holding gun fire), I also get no sound from interacting with physical objects.

Just a FYI: It appears that the uninstaller doesn't remove the folder and configuration files.

Also: programs failed with an 'openal not installed' error when I first tried to launch them, so apparently this is a prerequisite. Since you do have links for nvivia and ATI drivers, you may want to consider also adding a link to the OpenAL stuff in the menu for those that don't already have it on their system.

it runs ok on my computer, didn't notice any obvious problems, the sandbox was a bit weird in the controls department but everything seemed pretty sound and rendered nicely. Not that fast on my 7800GS but not slow for an indie engine either.

I used Inno Setup.

There is one.

It will run at about the same speed as STALKER. There is an initial performance hit for the lighting, but when more lights are onscreen, the deferred approach is much faster than other options. Here is what I mean:

I re-uploaded the demo. For some reason I removed some shadow softening code in the original, and when I re-enabled it I realized it looked much better with it.

That blur effect looks awful..

Wow i wouldn't want his/her skin either. Do right handed holded weapons disturb left handed people as much as me disturbs this one? It looks nice how you place some trees and lights in the scene but then it gets too much.

One thing I noticed when I ran the underground level again was some kind of alpa 2D billboard sprite attached to the tip of the gun barrel. It's only visible when the barrel passes through collisions, like a wall.

Josh,

Very well done - like the front end as it provides access to a number of different features.

Eek, thought I was in need of a monitor upgrade for a second.

Josh, personally, I think you are you are doing your engine a huge disservice having any association with assault rifles.

If I understand what you just said.. yes it does!

Definitely an engine for the high-end machines.. Mirror's Edge runs quite nice on full, but not this.

Of course Mirror's Edge will run faster on your machine. It's using Unreal Engine 3, so the lighting is mostly pre-baked lightmaps.

Apparently ATI just released a new driver a day or two ago that exposes the bindable uniform extension. However, their implementation doesn't work, so the engine detects the extension and tries to use it.

This is not the first time this has happened. The same thing happened when they tried to add depth cubemaps. I just had to disable it on ATI cards.

And lightmapping is an evil practice?

It looks and runs faster than your engine. I'd say that's worth something.

It looks quite nice but some of it appears a bit out of focus (in the first screenshot), notably the rocks and rocky terrain.

Is there a reason the player's hand appears to be made of a mix of charcoal and flesh? - It really is quite noticeable that there is something wrong happening there.

And lightmapping is an evil practice?

I said that of course it would run faster. If you want to use static lighting, go for it.

The visual weapon is just a model I found. The normals aren't correct, and for the normal map I just generated a dot3 map from the texture, so yeah, it does look bad. The renderer is displaying it correctly, but it's just shoddy art. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement?

The blur in this image is due to motion blur. I like it, but it can be disabled.

..I can make for ya decent normalmaps, specular maps , etc..just sent me the model and texture for it..

I thought FPS was all about killing people? Or aliens (which is more or less the same thing).

Of course, there is that doggy bone game, but I'm not sure if that counts....

Updated to 2.21, link is above.

I'm with state of california, fps genre = pathological illness. As I'm deeply opposed to acts of hypocrisy I won't pose such politically charged question again.

Oh I thought you were joking! There's no reason not to pose such questions (although you're WRONG) -- start a thread, there's probably a good discussion to be had.

Found a small bug. ALT TABBING out of the example, causes all the shadows and light to disappear on my system. Looks fairly impressive.

Ok, now i can't get the light to return even in the island demo... and the sound is very patchy. I'm getting 15 fps on the island demo. Same gun fire problem as reported earlier.

I would like to see something other than a fps game written using the engine

I would actually like to see a game written with the engine rather than a series of tech demos that to be honest have yet to show anything other than well made models and fancy gfx effects or attempts to clone the look of other fps games like farcry etc.

What would sell me the engine as something worth spending money on would be a well put together playable game(or even a well done level) featuring atleast some enemies as well a demostrating the lighting, texturing and physics capability of the engine.

What is the effect in the first shot? DOF or BLOOM?

The waterline on the rocks is clearly defined, but the rocks are blurred somewhat. Seems to look better in the 2nd shot...perhaps it's MOTION BLUR? [but the water image is sharp]

I like (the small bit i can see) the palm tree shadows that fall on the long grass...that's a nice effect.

Left handed / right handed; why do people even care?

Anyway...nice as usual!

..well..I cant say much because provided artwork in this example are not mine and thats anyway open for discussion..however, I do have LE, and according to things i was able to do with it with my geometry, i can say its really impressive stuff, so this example i see here I do believe , doesnt show what this engine can really do...my thoughts was pretty much similar like Joncom, EdzUp and others said already, until I bought it and do my own stuff (non fps) and treat my own geometry...and results I got are amazining..I do have complaining only about animation sequencing(everything has to me stored in one file), but other that that, its really nice renderer to have...too bad its not multiplatform (MAC/Linux)..

Left handed / right handed; why do people even care?
Because.. it feels weird.

Yeah, it is motion blur and bloom. I think it makes things look like a photo. Not sure why.

Of course, there is that doggy bone game, but I'm not sure if that counts....

And here I thought anything xylvan related would finally be tucked away and forgotten =p

I can't say that's your best scene leadwerks but it shows some feature capabilities nonetheless.

I'm not sure why so many people are jumping full on the negative without solution or any praise with your engine - maybe ditching other peoples projects rather then coming up with their own is their daily hobby?

It ran very smooth for me, and the engine itself is very impressive - one of the most complete and successful projects around here.

ocd much? That's a problem with you, not the scene.

Motion blur? I thought it's looking rather like DOF. In my Opinion DOF only makes sense, when the stuff under the crosshair is dynamicly focused/sharp while all other distances become blur. DDOF sotosay.
The grass seems top be a pixel shader or something like that? Or maybe only a masked texture (where alpha would look better IMHO).

Any confirmation on the errors I had whilst running it?

Your card does not support Shader Model 3.0. Looks like the 9800s were introduced in 2003:
