The Venus Project

I discovered this from the second film release of Zeitgeist called of Zeitgeist:Addendum, and apart from the obvious issues a lot of people have with their attacks on current governments and society, they do seem to have some amazing technological theories and designs for a self-sustaining future.

If you have seen the video, what are your thoughts on the future of technology jumping up for these purposes?

I saw the whole thing, it's pretty cool in terms of an environmentally friendly and technologically advanced future. I like the artistry and efficiency. However I heard or read somewhere recently that the Venus project has cloesed down due to the economy?

Before I google search that, that sounds unplausible lol. I thought they were having some big conference for the venus project sometime around march 8th I thought - tickets were sold...

edit: yeah i'm not finding anything, can you recall where you saw that? That would probobly upset a good amount of people =p

Retimer, I made the same mistake to open a thread about the Venus Project and the Zeitgeist movies last month. Prepare to get pissed.

Oh by the way watch "Future by Design" too, IMO Jacque Fresco is one hell of a futurist/designer.

i dunno the first half dozzen models looked like they came right out of stingray

who'd want to live on a bridge?
or is that 'social housing'?
all the 'homexx.jpg" are rich island hide aways with complementary speed yatch
so far the only city scapes are the circular city and some i wouldnt live there high rises

as for the cat, its gone ferral it was a cute little cat now its in touch with its lynx ancestors and is ready to spit frenzy

edit

that looks like a boat ready for the next flood

ive not read up on this nor watched the videos ... i'm on a 3gb contract, im not watching anything without knowing its file size to find out this 'brilliant' scheme ends up doubling my bill when im charged 10p per mb after that 3gb

so i dont know if this is some post flood/disaster or just some "arnt i great" architect linked to some presumed "whack-cult"
yes i can read up via the main site but for those that have watched the films give me a synopsis without making it or you sound like david ike

edit:
and someones been to tattooene

It's 'could someone please shoot me?'

On a more serious note. This venus project appears to be an updated form of Technocracy. I see lot's of words, but no explanation of how this 'economic' system(for lack of a better term) would work. Geting rid of money also eliminates the 'incentive' to work. Who would want to work everyday if they could just as well take a pleasurecruise instead.

It sounds like 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his need', and that has never proven itself to be very efficient.

aye i read the 'lets get rid of money' bit, well then if we all become equal who the F gets these island hideaways with private yatch?

what id like to see built, especially where i live, are more sociably affordable housing, perferably where you can never own 100% of the property as then you could sell it for a lot more than you paid for.
too many 3 story town houses have been built which arnt sold to familys but to buy to let land lords and are split into bed sits
it would be better for all concerned if they made housing that was designed for single adults and childless couples, one of these town houses could have been remoulded into 3 identical one bed apartments consisting of
bedroom, nothing too big or fancy
living room with adjoining kitchen
wc

so all the families that do want a home end up living in cambourn which ive been told has turned into a dump and its quite new as towns/villages go as cambridge council moves on its 'undesirables'
but if they built these simple homes instead people like myself could move out of 3 bedroom semis that have been turned into over crowded bedsits and the land lord could sell or rent to familes
(although my land lord wouldnt like that as he earns a mint pcm off 6 rooms)
but the reason they build town houses is the town houses that are around are bedsits

Geting rid of money also eliminates the 'incentive' to work. Who would want to work everyday if they could just as well take a pleasurecruise instead.

Plenty of 'those' people usually fit a certain stereotype already, and basically do just that even when money is the basis of wealth. Welcome to the millions on welfare, amongst many of them (not all - certainly don't get me wrong) who aren't bothering to look for jobs or do anything productive except create beer cap walls and bong visualizations on commercial/residential areas with spray paint while dealing catnip to highschool kids.

Some of us are just naturally motivated to make attempts at a little bit more then that....and you can't deny, there are a lot of stupid people out there and a lot of that has to do with craptastic education systems and lack of more useful technology. I've chatted with some recently graduated high school students of the acedemic level who claimed to never have done geometry.....lol? "what's cosine on the calculator for?".

Most of the 'work' based on the idea in that theoretical future isn't based on the boring repetetive tasks you find almost everywhere today. The point of improving technology is to remove things like shipping, processing, handling - all to make them automated so people could spend their time on more valuable aspects. Most of which would be engineering and programming.

I don't think the idea of the Venus Project would work out in its current state, but it's a better outlook on things then what we have now, unless ofcourse the chaos in the new millenium pleases you.

Ah I must have missed it, and not at all ;) I still love the opinions on either side, whether some might be through ignorance/one-sided views...it's all good.
