No. You can use a wide range of languages. Can you use BlitzMAX? Yes. Is it going to be a lot more hassle than using one of the more mainstream languages? Again, yes.

so do you think its an avenue worth pursuing. One of my former workmates has started a compnay doing this, but somehow I can't see how it can be that big somehow
If you get a hit you have a ready-made distribution network and if it becomes the "in" thing then it could become huge. However the odds against this happening are pretty low. I'm almost totally disinterested in social networking, I was doing all that in '94 so it seems kind of passe now.
