DOS Nostalgia

I'm sorry if this will appear as shameless advertising, but believe me I'm really interested in some advice/feedback. :) I'll join a few people here who post about their new websites. Here's mine:

Woke up this morning (a day off work, thank god) and just felt like I should finally start working on it. The idea has been in my head for years. Nothing interesting up there now, but most of today was spent recording footage off DOSBox. I've worked on the first episode and after a few hours of video editing I had to stop and watch a movie. Editing is a pain in the ass!
My question is, if any of you do video blogging/reviews, can you throw any hints my way to make my life a bit easier? I really would like to continue working on this and make it into something interesting, but I don't want a second job.

Oh, and one more thing for those of you who are, like me, still interested in DOS stuff: Anything you'd like to see on the site? Reviews, articles or something else?

Well if you decide to expand horizons and need some assistance..let me know and i will be glad to help..CNC stuff is something im doing for a living past 6-7 years..anyway..DOS is very a live in world of CNC machinery so its nice when someone pushing it in to gaming area..nicee :)

And good video by the way, I watched the whole thing. Very professional. Cool game too, I like the footprints and the broom aspect the best.

And you should do the game 'Relentless', if you are familiar with it. Its a great late-dos game.

A game which despite being made in 1984, still works with correct timing on current machines! alas, up until XP it runs just fine, but Vista doesn't support fullscreen DOS apps anymore.

Surprisingly enough, it's probably the only classic from my childhood which still manages to amuse and entertain me today without resorting to nostalgia. Top notch gameplay, very imaginative, and still incredibly cute.

I can't think of another PC game which stands so well to the test of time. And it was less then 64kb too.

Totally agree about Alley Cat - great game.

If you mean 'Little Big Adventure', then yes I'm familiar with it. I have it. I might get to it some time in the future. I have a few plans on earlier games first.

Thanks for the feedback, I can't watch that video without cringing. My accent sounds even worse than usual since I'm pretty nervous reading the text. Listen carefully and you can hear me taking giant breaths in between sentences. :)

If you use Dosbox there are no troubles running games in fullscreen under Vista. Funny thing is that the Steam version of Doom 1 and 2 and Xcom are using Dosbox as well. Only needed to patch Xcom terror of the deep to get it working under Vista.

You sir have just discovered hot water. Before DosBox was usable, virtual machines did a great job too.
My point was that despite being made in 1984, still runs *natively*.

ADOM is a game you should talk about.

New review added today: Fantastic Dizzy!

I really enjoy watching these. Never heard of Dizzy before, but I am from America so that's probably the reason.

Looks like a cool game, I miss the days when games were so long and difficult.

Dizzy was our mario, the game mechanics werent the same, but he was the UK's 8bit cross platform mascot (along with montey mole)

Dizzy was HUGE in Russia (USSR those days) and so were the ZX Sinclair clones - another thing Americans had never heard of. In fact my first home pc was one of those and I still remember what it smelled like out of the box. :)
I honestly was thinking of including the part where I die 2 hours into the game with my webcam showing my face going pale and then me screaming obscenities at the screen. Maybe I'm just spoiled by modern gaming. I mean I bet if I fire up any Nintendo game I used to play for hours when I was a kid I probably wouldn't have enough patience to play it through.

Nice Review, personally my favorite Dizzy game was Fantasy Island Dizzy, loved playing that on the Amstrad CPC (which was just a port of the speccy, but the gameplay was brilliant)

Nice videos. I remember playing Alley Cat at a friend's house.

I don't but I've done some video editing so I know it's hard work. I think you have very high quality videos and it would be nice to keep that level but you'd really need someone to help with the video recording/editing to half your workload so you can keep it going. Otherwise you could try using still shots more.


Not really, I like the current video-only format.

Oh, thanks for this site - it sure brings back some great memories! Some of my favourites from those days are:
Thexder, Space Quest 3, Monkey Island (1), Civilization (1), Need For Speed (1), X29, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem, Grand Theft Auto (1), Digger... just to name a few. Will keep visiting your reviews and looking forward to the next one!
