Heh, I was just referencing DarkHeart's comment and explaining why you might have thought some of us had heard about it and some had missed it, since it was a big event. I'm sure plenty of people don't, but I have the BBC headlines thingy on Firefox and I tend to read most of the new stories.

I've been developing a game called "The Dark Side of the Moon", which is about the behind of the moon. NASA has reported that there exists alien bases, and they are waiting for something.

But seriously, it's good place to browse the general headlines and their sport stuff is good.

With the satellite imagery, 3d buildings, gps and user content, I'm sure it won't be long before the API is used for something that can truly be called a game. I think there are some attempts, but nothing that could really be called a mainstream game, yet... Isn't there a simple flight sim tucked away in google earth?

There is probably some rights issues (the way things are) with using real imagery. Either that, or politcal reason why you can't. It would be cool to have a command and conquer type thing going, on a real scale, taking control of different parts of the globe, in teams and that :o)

The Last Guy (PS3/PSN) does just that.

Maybe they accidently placed the beacon on the bright side of the moon and now they're waiting forever...

I have only just spotted that built-into Google Earth is Google Mars. You can change the earth to Mars by clicking the planet icon at the top of the screen.
