How many Micorsoft licences in your house ?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How many Micorsoft licences in your house ?

oops keyboard dyslexia - microsoft

Mines has 3.5 XP licences....

3.5 I hear you say, well one of them is an upgraded Win 98. For XP Home - Windows 7 whatever do you think microsoft should give something back and make licences post code - zip code dependant? not for the pro users you understand - just the bog standard home folk.

Actually I have many, I buy all Microsoft Flight Simulator versions, and some other Microsoft games too, like Outwars, Monster Truck Madness (came with a Wheel I think), Hellbender, Urban Assault, Motocross Madness (came with a 3D controller), Freelancer, Starlancer, Crimson Skies, MechWarrior 4, Halo 1-2, Alan Wake (coming in 2009).

It's amazing how many Microsoft licenses you might actually have, you don't realize it when buying the games.

os licences
w95
w98
winme
winxp x 2 no disc's just code stickers and a partition with the setup on on the dead pc and return to shop for a reinstall if i ever need it
oem win xp pro cd i got when i bought a hard drive as i thought not having a disc was folly if the drive borks

hmmm. didn't realise the extent of my post.... I was on about OS licences - however I think We've every incenration of Age of empires/mythology/expansion packs and blah (good product...). I did have one of the mechwarrior incarnations but it was damn demanding even back then - a case of designing software for hardware upgrades? No, surely not. Am sure we've more MS licences in our extensive game collection. Cheers.

@xlsior: Same..

Been in the business a LONG time :D

In use at my house is:

1 98
2 Vista
3 XP
1 Server 2003

1 xp 1 vista came with pcs.

Most software is GPL/LGPL/BSD licence except b3d, psp and other nicknacks.

@Edzup - wow, thats a fair old list!

2 vista home premiums. Neither of them used. I'm on Win 7 beta and my housemate is on a pirated XP Pro.

none

Two

Vista on my desktop and Vista on my laptop

"OS X on my Mac"

I have one Windows 98 license (is the OS that came with my first own PC) that I no longer use.

I have one Windows XP license that I no longer use, which came with a laptop that I don't use for almost anything currently, and which now has Ubuntu installed on it.

I have one Windows 7 Beta 1 license that I have running on my MacBook with Boot Camp.

Apart from that, the only Microsoft software that I use is free (Visual C++ Express 2008). No Office, I used to be a Lotus user until I moved to OpenOffice.org, which does the job perfectly.

2 Vista, 3 XP, a few Win98 and one Win95. I'm only running two Vista and two XP systems at the moment.

Also, Office 97 and Office 2003. I have a boxed copy of C# 2003 somewhere too but I can't remember if that uses a licence key or not?

Oh, and I ended up with about 15 licence keys for Windows 7 due to repeated [failed] attempts to get it to download.

..only WinXP Pro..everything else pirated..hell i cant buy licensed here anyway..

....probably not something you want to be shouting about.

One license for Vista Home Premium. I also have two licenses for OS X.

>>....probably not something you want to be shouting about.<<

nahh..before me, they should take a look at whole shopping malls, size of the football field and full of pirated software of any kind...

I have an MS licence to print money. No wait, Bill's got that one.

98
ME
XP Pro (OEM)
Vista Ultimate (OEM)

Only XP and Vista in use, although thinking of setting up a virtual machine for 98 to (hopefully) play some of my older games from time to time.

What win98 games dont run on XP/Vista?

@Edzup - wow, thats a fair old list!

Been programming PC games since the IBM XT (4.77Mhz) computer, had an ollivetti PC1 but the xt was better in some aspects

DOS ?.? (Maybe somewhere...)
Win 3.11 (sure - I recycled the floppy disk some months ago! - very happy to trash them!!!)
Win 95 (x1)
win 98 (x1)
win 98se (x2)
Win xp Pro (x3)
[Vista ?something? on my sisters'laptop]

(mmm...I made Bill Gates rich....)

1 Win 3.1;
4 Win 98;
1 Win 2000; and
5 Win XP.

1 Vista

1 MS-DOS (think it's 4.0, would have to check)
1 Win 3.1
2 Windows 95
2 Windows 98
1 Windows ME
1 Windows 2000 Pro
5 XP Home
1 Vista Business

There are also countless licenses for Office versions and about 6 Visual* (I have Visual Basic 3.0 in one of my drawers, VB 5.0 somewhere, VC++ 6, C# 2003, VS2005 Standard, and VS2008 PRo) licenses. The only one of these that I currently use is my copy of Visual Studio 2008 Pro, and it's received rather limited use since I bought my Mac and found some of the neat things you can do with Interface Builder and a small amount of code.

@Nilium - forgot about the 'education' version of vb6 that I bought - all £130 some 8 or 9 years ago - good product though. I'm just making some pancakes - well it is saturday night (;-)

I have 5 MS licenses:-

XP Home (X2)
XP Pro
Vista Home Premium (X2)

I also have a satnav with WinCE on, not sure if that counts though.

Dabz

It is interesting to see the vision that Bill Gates had coming to fruition. Seeing the lists of OS's people have (me included) he has my respect as a businessman at any rate - now if he'd only incorporate some of those expensive stand alone software engineering products that recover word docs into his next release of word - or even better a backwards compatible patch to stop word docs gettingt corrupted in the first instance. That'd be something.

I never payed the official retail price for any of my Windows versions, but here are my official licenses :

1x Windows 95
1x Windows 98
1x Windows Me upgrade
1x Windows XP Professional SP2
2x Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
1x Windows Server 2008 Enterprise

What win98 games dont run on XP/Vista?

hogs of war :(
it whines at not being able to run on NT so i guess it was some lets not have games on NT systems now shall we sys admin thingie
if you know of a patch let me know :) (i keep forgetting to google it and play startopia instead)

1 x XP Home
2 x XP Professional
2 x Vista Home (YUK!)
1 x Windows Mobile 6.1

It was 2 x XP Home, but I just sold the old "family" laptop.

I also own Vista Ultimate, but I'll never use it.

1 windows vista ultimate and 2 windows xp professional.nver really use the second xp machine though, hardrive is too noisy

1 MS-DOS (think it's 4.0, would have to check)
1 Win 3.1
2 Windows 95
2 Windows 98

Lol i didnt realise we were including that old crud, i must have half a million random DOS v3 through 6, Win 2.x, 3.1, 95 & other software disks floating about in boxes in the darkest corners, originals, dodgy oems and "backups". Not sure if i could find the licence stickers though :D

What win98 games dont run on XP/Vista?

Mechwarrior 3
Baldur's Gate

Two of my favorites.

Bauldurs gate runs.. just just not network (or it does kind-of but is very unreliable at connecting)

Are you playing the second or the first?

I get graphics errors, boxes around the characters like it wasn't recognizing transparency. Tried to run in another compatibility mode but no dice... and its really not worth fixing when I have a perfectly good Win98 machine.

It was the first one, i ended up using wine as i got so annoyed with the dropouts.

I didn't even try it with Wine when I had Ubuntu, wish I would have now. But the game was made for 98 era computers so it isn't like I have performance issues.

Perhaps the graphics errors were due to aero/3d desktop. My vista was in classic mode so may be why it worked :/

None.

1 Win95 (perhaps...if I can find it)
1 Win98SE (still in use on very old PC which gets used as a server for my games)
1 WinXP SP2 (my laptop)
1 WinXP SP3 (my *new* desktop)
1 MS Word 97
1 MS Encarta 97
1 MS Works 97
and possibly some other stuff that I don't remember.

Don't use Word anymore, don't even use OpenOffice anymore, NotePad is good enough for me.

I've got the choice of using vi and notepad at work for some stuff, I still prefer notepad.

A whole bunch, most of which I will never use again.

There's an assortment of OS's, going back to DOS. And many apps, such as Flight Simulator, Encarta and Cinemania.

There are plenty more sitting in boxes and long forgotten.

Not as many as MS would like...

2 vista
1 Xp
1 mmoglider with real key !

"Open office"
"Gimp"

the mmoglider i can recomend.. now i just ned another to computer to code on. and if i get "kicked out of wow" its a loss for brizzard and fredom for me.
