Red Dwarf returns

There is something that the Brits can do well, and that's comedy. Red Dwarf, the best (and only) scifi comedy series will return with a couple of episodes. If somebody has not yet watched this brilliant show I highly recommend it. I hope we'll see more of my favorite character

Hyperdrive? Personally I thought it was rubbish, but some people seem to have enjoyed it.

At one point in the past they made a pilot show of Red Dwarf for US production... It was pretty abyssmal, and didn't get picked up by any networks.

I'd love to see a movie, though.

I only wish there was more "Spaced"... :/

Thank god for that, considering what they done to 'The Office' I'd hate to see Red Dwarf butchered like that.

The casting of the US pilot was odd, with half the main cast still being played by British actors. Robert Llewelyn still played Kryten, Holly was played by Jane Leeves ('Daphne' on Frasier)...
Lister was played by some American Davis Hasselhof look-a-like...

Plain weird.

The UK cast was pretty well chosen, IMO.

I thought the US pilot was actually pretty good. Of course, not original Red Dwarf good, but 'better than 99% of US comedies' good.

Seen that pilot and butchered was exactly the right word for it.


Considering whatsisface has repeatedly stated that there won't be more eps until the movie is done (which will likely never happen), I'll believe this when I see it. On my TV. With the end credits rolling.

I think it will be awful, I only count up series 1-6 as "Real" Red Dwarf epdisodes, series 7&8 were terrible and I'm pretty sure the results of this latest attempt for one last paycheck will also be abysmal.

The first six series were great, the last two not so (though the did have their high points - the image of 'Kill Crazy' winning a fight against Pete, the T-Rex, because they've got such small arms always makes me smile). I'm really looking forward to this finale whether done well or not, to be honest, just because it'll provide much needed closure.

I have "The Official Red Dwarf Companion" by Bruce Dessau sat on my shelf gathering dust.

It details seasons 1-5 and comes complete with a postcard signed by Craig Charles, Danny John Jules, Robert Llewelyn & Chris Barrie.

It was given to the company I was working with, we were looking into designing a Red Dwarf themed fruit machine, which we never did.

Anyway, it's free to the first person who sends me an email with their address (it's in my profile), I'll pop it in the post next week.

It makes me actually admire and understand the thoughts behind those top decisions when they say "We decided to leave it alone and move on, and won't be doing any more xxxxx, because it was successful and we are happy with it"

I think Red Dwarf was of its time. Probably be a mistake to bring it back. Plus, Craig Charles looks a bit too old to play a scally, now. He's also too busy driving taxis, anyway. :P

Oh, I dunno, I think that he's pretty well preserved for his age, which proves that smoking crack must be good for your health. Put him in dreadlocks and a leather jacket and he'd still look the part.

Well, if Harrison Ford can come back as Indie at his age, I guess anything's possible. :P

I would rather they didn't end it, the show has always been crazy and to conclude it, somehow doesn't fit in with the nature of the show.
No matter how they conclude it, most of the fans won't like it. Better to leave as is in my opinion.

Agree that first 6 seasons were the better ones, although I'd go as far as saying only the first 5, 6th was starting to go wrong for some reason (I just didn't find it as funny).

However I don't think I could sit through them again now, tried watching a few favourite episodes recently and it seems they've aged poorly....my Mum always found when we were kids for the series to have a certain effect similar to sleeping pills but without the risk of addiction after regular usage.

The special fx might be craptasticular but the jokes are still awesome. We just rewatched a handful of them the other week...

i watched the two american pilots on youtube before doing a spot of overitme (cos someone was 'snowed in')
if all they were going to do was re use alot of the jokes why bother in the first place just air the originals

although Robert Llewelyn was a better kryten than the first one (ok he was only in it for an episode) i cant see an american pulling it off as well as he did

daphne moon as holly works better than the woman who was the parralelle universe one who took over for 3? onwards, ive nothing against her and used to enjoy her stand up clips but i guess i just love daphne's voice (mind you i find pam ayres voice dead sexy, pity the same cant be said for the rest of her)

Actually I have been watching a lot of red dwarf of late and its still quite funny.( watched backwards last night)

I have a suspicion that this *is* the movie, he's had a heck of a lot of trouble getting it started.

Why spread rumors? There are 4 episodes total:
1. Behind the scenes episode
2. "Unplugged" episode without sets and scripts or something like it
3. First part of proper episode (30min)
4. Second part of a proper episode (30min)
This is not the movie however (the guy behind these episodes said so in an interview).
