Does anyone like Star Trek? I made a Star Trek Fan Show. I don't have a budget so I use starship meshes in b3d. If anyone is interested here is the link.

I also have made a teaser preview which is here.

I love Star Trek (all except Voyager, ugh). I'll check out the link when I get home.

I love all Star trek including Voyager :)

the graphics look good, not sure about children running a starship - everyone hated wesley crusher, but you never know it could be good

I didn't much like the new enterprise series... The rest were good. Except DS9. It was better when Sisko shaved his head.

I like all Star Trek shows except for the original series.
Can't watch your video at work, but I'll give it a go when I get home :D

RossC: Shaved head was the turning point ;)

Not sure about children running a starship, having those annoying kids in the thunderbirds movie was terrible

> everyone hated wesley crusher

Even the actor that played him hates wesley! (Shut Up Wesley)

For the DS9 guys, What season does DS9 get good? I'm thinking of picking up the series on netflix but don't want to get bogged down in the terrible first couple seasons of it. Near the end it was pretty good though.

Voyager just took Star Trek Preachiness too far for my taste.

I don't know the seaon. But it's when Sisko shaves his head, and Kira gets a decent looking outfit to wear.

least with DS9 they (eventually) had a story arc (and no voyagers long trek (pun intended) home doesnt count), with all the others you could drop a disc in and watch any episode in any order and not need to know what happened the episode before, or spoil what happens next
mind you (sticklebricks) babylon 5 did it better, but the story arc was in the mix from the start with that one

They cannot go back to federation space for their parents are wanted for treason.

but they arnt are they?
talk about sins of the father

Captain Janeway was an acquired taste - but she was good in the end. Not sure Sam Beckett ever quantum leaped into the Captain role. SOunds like an interesting project - but your pilot is not available till september right?

The problem with Voyager is they got out of almost every problem by discovering some new photonchronoquantom pulse at the last minute to do whatever and save the day. It got old.

> Captain Janeway was an acquired taste - but she was good in the end.

I'm one of those that never liked her character, always too preachy - right up to the end. (I saw the last couple episodes at one point).

I liked the Holo Doctor, Neelix, and Tuvok was done well though.

Star Trek Voyager was actually my favorite star trek show (except maybe TNG). My show will be kinda like a mix of DS9 and Voyager. I don't have a really good camera so if you want something proffesional you might want to wait till our later seasons. As for graphics I don't know if it will look that good on the show cause of the file type I will have to put the video in.

one year ago I was working on this B3D project: http://www.blitzbasic.com/Community/posts.php?topic=69825

unfurtunally now I have no free time to continue it.. hoping in next month (and in Bmax3D...)

I know someone who started work on a Star Trek show of his own, but in the end he turned to parady.. and made some pretty darn funny stuff! His reasoning was, unless you have top notch equipment and actors it's always going to come out a little ammaturish, but in parady not so important.

So best of luck to you! :)

I saw that. You got me excited about it. I downloaded the demo, and you didn't work on it anymore. You should get back on it. It looks very fun.

I must be blind... Where's the video?

If you look at the date it says that the series starts in september 2009. But I will try to make a video asap and post it.

I copied this post and put it in the Blitz Showcase.

To tell the truth I kinda hated wesley too.

They should have let Wesley die in that episode they wanted to kill him for stepping on the flowers.

Voyager was my fave.

It would be helpful if you left comments on my site too. It is at the bottom of the homepage I think.

@GaryV - hasn't someone else got that sig? just a thought.

Anywayz - @ dynaman - that just goes to show the quality of the script writers - you couldn't get over janeways superior stance thingy - but the other characters got you hooked.

Who thinks that such a stereotyped actor (errm quantum leap) maybe slapped the nail in the coffin (yeah - I know - youch - the last (ever ?) series never gripped me that much - but the voyager series at least had that je nes ce qua married with a achieveable goal.

Will there be another season - this threads going there!

Another season of what?

your making a mix of DS9 & Voyager, so its not another season granted it sounds like it has the strong potential to be the first season of something new and interesting. When I said 'another' season I was being type happy and actually meant that someone is evovling the star trek product into something that star trek fans might've like to have seen the product go that way. Sorry for the poor judgement call in saying that you were simplt continuing something - I did mean that but I meant it with respect to the star trek brand.

thread killer or what?

Well it is a fan show, meaning that it is a different show created by fans based on star trek.

BTW anyone can join the website!

Blitzplotter: Thanks, I keep sigs turned off and forgot that was still in there.

I am not the best modeler so if anyone would like to be my starship artist then tell me.

> but the other characters got you hooked.

Actually, those final couple episodes just happened to be on, and I was too lazy to look for the remote... (that's lazy too, I used to have to get up and change the channel at the TV!)

when i was living oop norf bbc2 was showing tng ds9 and voyager on mondays wednesdays and fridays or something like that
id get home from a (probably) 12 hour day sit down and watch an episode, and by the time the intro credits were over i would be fast asleep till the end credits

Is it weird that I used to love ToS, but about half way through TNG it just seemed to lose some appeal for me, now it's just too vast with so many different alien races with strangely unanimous ideologies even though so many of them dont live on their home planet anymore.

Anyway...............

Thanks for the link. I have plans for making a ToS game (yes, there's a reason for only going for the original ;) abd Im sure there will be sommething useful in that link!)

Why do so many people not like Voyager?

We're under attack!
Fire phasers!
Did we kill them?
No we only damaged their shields slightly. Should I carry on shooting?
No, if we don't kill them in the first few shots we can't kill them at all.
Oh no they've taken over Seven of Nine and now she's injecting nanobots into the Sickbay lightswitch panel in order to take over the bridge! boobies <3
Captain if we send a chronoelectropulse through the primarysecondarybackupmain circuit we can neutralise Seven of Boobs
Do it!
ZAP
Yay!
Captain, now I, Seven of Nine, am back to my normal self, I believe I can invent a photoquantum ionbomb that could disable the enemy ship. The Federation have been working on this highly theoretical technology for decades without success but me and Belonna can perfect the technology in under an hour.
You have 5 minutes.
Yes ma'am.
Captain, the holodeck has been damaged by enemy fire and is malfunctioning!! The doctor is going rouge!
Can you shut it down without damaging his holomatrix?
Captain, when have we EVER been able to shut ANYTHING down without something being damaged or some bullcrap? What kind of a story would that make?
Ok bring the crazy Doctor on the intercom I'll try to reason with him.
I'm the Doctor I'm crazy.
Get back to work.
OK.
Captain photoquantumelectropositrion pulse ready.
Fire!
Boomb we've destroyed the enemy ship.
Why were they firing at us anyway?
Oh I think we crashed into one of their schoolbus shuttles and kill all their children oh well who cares. Let's carry on the journey home!

There, that sums up 50% of the episodes!

I just liked the Delta Quadrant setting.

LOL... nice ;)

Star Trek is all about entertainment. Whether 95% of Voyager was the same thing or not, I was entertained by it and the characters thoroughly. A great series, 'nuff said.

I have star trek 3D meshes on my website now! I only have one so far but I am working on more!

You have five minutes.

LOL, nice one Czar Flavius. That about sums up Voyager. They never managed to aquire ANY new tech, weapons or anything. Seven of nine had the entire knowledge of the Borg at her disposal and couldn't make the ship go any faster. In fact, the only thing she designed was a room for scanning things very far away.

Voyager was rubbish! Thou shalt not have a female captain in Star Trek!

<Janeway> Oh noes, we're under attack!

<Kim> Raising shields.

<Janeway> Can someone fetch me the vacuum cleaner? I want this ship to be ship-shape for our unconditional surrender. Mr Kim, is that a wrinkle in your uniform? Fetch it over and I'll run an iron over it.

<Kim> Shall I return fire?

<Janeway> Good idea! Return fire!

I thought that using the worklogs as a free advertisement section was rather poor in form.
http://www.blitzmax.com/logs/userlog.php?user=10763&log=1660

ah, voyager wasnae rubbish - you just diddn'y give it a chance. It trumped quantum leap captain for sure.

Voyager is my fave ST, then Next Gen. I never got into DS9 at all.

I'd give Seven Of Nine one anyday ;) :P

I thought that I could put it in the worklogs since I used blitz for the space clips.

Is Star Trek Hidden Frontier any good?

I like all Star Trek shows except for the original series.

Well that's just ass-backwards...

All the new shows were basically pussified. I remember watching TNG with my mates and in the very first episode, Picard surrendered the Enterprise. We all just looked at each other and groaned.

Hope the 'reboot' doesn't suck too much, but it looks like ST 90210 frankly...

I liked all of the new shows (except maybe ds9)

I like them all for different reasons, although some of them had some bad points for sure. I like some of the movies (mainly the old ones) but some are a bit crappy, like ST V and some of the TNG ones.

I'm dubious of the new movie because the delight of the other movies is seeing the people you've got to know from the series in a big budget outing.

I don't know if the new movie is going to be anygood or not. They are completely changing Star Trek to fit this generation.

i love the way when they traveled back in time in some ds9 episode that i never saw but read about and was told of too that they had to go for the prisoner cell block h look and feel of the original serise even though that was just shoddy due to technical limitations and budget restraints of the time
now a days you get million dollar budgets to make tv shows look futuristic, then im sure they had bluepeter on call as creative consultants

"and here is a boulder we made out of paper mache, sticky black plastic*1 and an empty washing up liquid bottle*2"

*1 cos they couldnt say selotape
*2 cos EVERYTHING even baking a cake had an empty washing up liquid bottle and children everwhere cursed fairy for lasting so long compared to 'other' leading brands

I wonder if the new movie will have consoles with flashing lights on like the original series for continuity seeing as it's supposed to be Kirk etc but just younger? I doubt it though ...

Yeah that DS9 episode was a real classic :-) It was the tribbles episode.

I don't know if I will like the bright white paint all over the enterprise interior.

Are any of the other Star Trek Fan Shows good?

Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning is pretty good
http://www.starwreck.com/

(You can view a trailer of the movie, and also download the full-length feature movie for free on that site. Great special effects. It's a Finnish Star Trek parody, colliding head-on with the Babylon 5 universe)

I will look at that.

They were the parady guys I was talking about lol

> i love the way when they traveled back in time in some ds9 episode that i never saw but read about and was told of too that they had to go for the prisoner cell block h look and feel of the original serise...

They did that because they superimposed the DS9 characters onto the existing "Trouble with Tribbles" episode footage from the original episode. It was amazingly well done too - it looked like they were part of the show from the beginning.

I thought that using the worklogs as a free advertisement section was rather poor in form.
You mean like that sswift guy?

http://blitzmax.com/logs/userlog.php?user=963&log=1201

I loved that Star Wrek movie (I watched the sixth one).

Was the sswift worklog deleted because it should be.

What season was that DS9 episode from?

How do the Star Wreck people get to give out dvds of their movies? Isn't that against the law?

ITS A PARODY SO ITS LEGAL

I liked TNG except the last two seasons it became remarkably monotonous. Every single episode then seemed to begin with "we have been ordered to patrol the neutral zone" or "we have been sent to [random planet] to investigate their proposal to join the federation."
It was somewhat painful how boring they all began.

Then the movies went in the opposite direction; all special effects and action, no substance.
WTF?!

DS9 was really good, too. Lots of people didn't like it, but I thought they had some really clever stuff in there. It was less about tachyon particles and quantum fluctuations, more about topics people actually care about. (Eg: Racism, genocide, desperation... odd stuff like that).

DS9 was really good, too. Lots of people didn't like it

The earlier seasons were very different from the later ones, with the Dominion wars.

Both DS9 and Voyager had a slow start, but got pretty decent towards the end.

I never really got into DS9 but I liked Voyager from the start.

After the new movie will Paramount make a new series?

> After the new movie will Paramount make a new series?

At this point it looks like it will be a movie franchise rather then TV, but you never know.

The new movie is going to be completely different from all other Star Treks.

I have a Teaser Preview for my Fan show out now here is the link
http://www.adrive.com/public/58b62f6412f7c426a68175e90df9d374de62d158436d7ed601a250475921a37b.html

> The new movie is going to be completely different from all other Star Treks.

From a website tidbit, the Romulans go back in time altering the future. If that is true (no idea, you know the web) then it won't be completely different - for the first 5 minutes or so. After that anything is fair game.

So far I like the look of the movie, and MI3 was a decent take on a show I didn't like to begin with - so maybe JJ can put Star Trek back on track as well. (I'm hoping so anyway)

I don't like that they are taking the forehead ridges off of Romulans though.

> I don't like that they are taking the forehead ridges off of Romulans though.

Romulans don't have Forehead ridges (unless you count Remans, or whatever they are, as Romulans), Klingons do.

Romulans don't have Forehead ridges
Yes they do. You just don't notice it as much because of their silly haircuts.

Yes they do. You just don't notice it as much because of their silly haircuts.

He's right you know...

Heck, my dad had bigger creases then that...

I would like to watch the whole lot again before I die. But it may never happen...

"..I like all Star Trek shows except for the original series..."

+100

JP

"..I like all Star Trek shows except for the original series..."

Me too.

Never got the appeal of the original series.

I've never seen the animated series, but that one is supposed to be pretty bad as well. :-?

The animated series sucked.

Why do romulans all look the same?

im sure to romulans we humans all look the same ;)

Why do romulans all look the same?

Dude, it's because they're aliens!

limited casting?

i play romulan 1 4 8 and 9 normally its just a case of changing my clothes and standing somewhere else on set for an alternate angle take of the main characters
but the writers dont know whos who and i had dificulties when playing a gay romulan
not cos i was cast as a gay alien but i also had to kiss another romulan that i played

Similar thing happened on B5, one scene called for an endless stream of victims of some sort walking onto the station. Only having 12 extras they filmed by having the extras walk on, go off camera, do a very quick small change of costume and then walk back on through the door again...

Was there really a gay romulan?

who knows i made it up :p
just posting about how some extras end up everywhere

one empire strkes back extra was an atat driver and snot down a snow speeder that he was also a pilot of
talk about over the top murder/suicide pacts

i think tv shows in general veer clear of sexuality incase they scare off the audience or have to be re rated
you might go from pg to 15 due to casting a gay character even if the most that will happen is maybe one kiss in the whole season

Star Trek Hidden Frontier had 3 gay characters in it.

Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, a Star Trek fanfilm, is set after the Dominion War against the backdrop of the Briar Patch, a massive unexplored nebula on the fringe of ...

note the word fan film
an official startrek show with an openly gay character (not actor) is one thing a fan film is another
i could make a fan film where they all have tourettes ;)

i didnt watch much of it but i know will and grace is about a 2 gay men and a woman living with one of em
afaik the 2 guys arnt lovers just mates but i dont ever recall any on screen gay clinches (perhaps i should have watched more than 5 episodes?) if they had have done the bbfc might have re rated the dvd to 18 instead of the perhaps 15 it is available at, if only cos the bbfc are very backwards with these things

an official startrek show with an openly gay character (not actor) is one thing

From Wikipedia:

DS9 is also notable for breaking several cultural taboos during its run. Most prominent among these is the issue of homosexuality. Gay and gay-friendly fans of the franchise had been waiting for a Star Trek television spin-off to address how a utopian society would deal with sexual orientation, since Gene Roddenberry had promised in 1987 to tackle the issue.[20] While Star Trek: The Next Generation gingerly addressed the issue through gender identity on occasion, two DS9 episodes showcased a kiss between people of the same sex.

were they main characters or just actors for the episode?
thats the clincher
TNG more than DS9 was episodic
"stardate bla bla bla, we have recieved a subspace distress call coming from the planet lesbos bla inuendo bla"
that would be more exploitative

having odo and obrien snog and mean it and not be his wife morphs into odo cos hes a shape shifter
characters who are there for the long term and perhaps open at the start about these things and not drafted in midway as the 'token gay guy'

mind you garak and bashier ... if it wasnt happening one of em wanted it to

If I want a starship to fire on another starship in a B3D program how would I code that?

I just bought the StarTrek comics on DVD. Pretty good deal to see the history of the comics:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-The-Complete-Collection/dp/B001B5KYR2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1234310064&sr=8-2

I don't like comics

That was a bit random of me.

If I want a starship to fire on another starship in a B3D program how would I code that?

- Create two starships
- Compare their relative positions
- Shoot something from one towards to the other

Really -- what do you expect people to tell you? This is so overly generic that there's not much to go on.

Also, if nothing else: you should post this question in one of the B3D forums, not here.

I meant like what should I use as a phaser?

aye this thread aint the time or place ... even if you are using b3D to do the SFX

speaking of odo
ive seen him in two murder she wrote's his eyes really are that beady and not just his odo make up

How is this not the place when I made this thread for the fan show I made. I just want to know what I should use as a phaser.

How is this not the place when I made this thread for the fan show I made.

The proper place would be under either the 'Blitz3D Beginners Area' or the 'Blitz3D Programming' groups ('For discussion of Blitz3D specific programming.'), not 'General Discussion'.

You are asking 'how to code' something, so it should be in one of the groups that deal with that specifically. Especially since this forum is for users of multiple programming languages, you should ask your question in the sub-group that uses the same language you do.

(you don't have to, but it is a lot more likely to get you the answers that you are looking for than a group like General Discussion would)

if this topic was more active (like when it first appeared) then the question and or supbsequent answere would be lost amongst the ontopic parts of the thread

when discussing scripts movie exects dont often start talking about film stock and SFX, they leave that to the experts

so if you need tech help this thread isnt the best option, even if it is relevant to your quest

where as "i want my ship to shoot at there ship" is quite a generic request and when asked in the right place garners the right answer and is also still there some time late when someone new also wants to know something similar
yet if they found this thread in the search 6 months from now theyd give up after the first dozzen posts thinking "wtf has this got to do with programming"

Okay, thanks for explaining. I will post on the 'Blitz3D Programming' or something. Thank you!

I have changed my site so that anyone can post in the discussion area now!

My favorite star trek series is Voyager

There is a new teaser preview out now!!!

Why do so many people not like Voyager?

Do not get me started. Seriously.

There is a new teaser preview out now!!!

That sure is a lot of very slow and very dull fly-bys. Also, both videos seem to be the same.

Why do so many people not like Voyager?
Because its crap?

Too many moments in Voyager, where you find yourself saying:

"If only they'd done that, they'd be home by now..."

ah but if they took the unstable wormhole route home instead of destroying it preventing some nasties to get into federation space (or end up 50 odd years in the past) or letting it destroy some fledgling culture on the near by plannet

well then there wouldnt be much point to the serise would there, it was always about the journey home
TNG exploration
DS9 about travelers
so voyager back home would be pointless as they just become TNG with ugly peple (and one borg-babe)

it was always about the journey home

This, here, is my number one issue with Voyager. It was never, ever about the journey home.

Also, you seem to be implying that the characters chose not to get home early because otherwise they would have no TV series. Which makes no sense. The correct statement is "the writers did a poor job of writing episodes that didn't gaping, premise-destroying logical loopholes."

well they had been given dozzens of shot cuts home but with a price
just like they made it back to the theme park a few times in dungeons and dragons, but for one reason or another (normally bobbys lust for uni) they had to go back or not enter portal
they all leave the realms of dungeons and dragons, now what?
90210 the cartoon :p

mind you my voyager watching normally involved getting home after a 10 or 12 hour day lugging metal work around turn on bbc2 see the prolog fall asleep during the credits and wake up to the end theme
i dont think i missed that much tbh ;)

just like they made it back to the theme park a few times in dungeons and dragons, but for one reason or another (normally bobbys lust for uni) they had to go back or not enter portal

That always bothered me. They were basically never going to get home because of that bloody unicorn.

well they had been given dozzens of shot cuts home but with a price

According to the kind of people who add this stuff up, if you add up all the shortcuts Voyager gets, they actually go well past the 70,000 lightyears they kept talking about.

They also lose a total of seventeen out of their total of two shuttles, I'm told. Which explains why every episode I saw seemed to involve a shuttle crash. Actually, that adds up to nearly a full season of "shuttle crash" episodes.

There is another preview that I will release in a few minutes. It will be a remake of the second but with much better CGI.

Here is the newest preview

http://www.adrive.com/public/eff984d395811f8d359d4c35c96be70eb7071f24e4554d0f202e8368746ed90f.html

the writers must have forgotten that they were way out of federation space and had a finite supply of shuttels, they could have addressed it buy buying (not that the federation used money) other species tech like shuttle pods to explain this lack of continuity away
TNG was allowed zero continuity as it was episodic
voyager was too but they never heeded the fact that they should have continuity in some parts like shuttles and crew
"weve been in the delta quadrant for 3 years and ive never seen you before who are you?"
"im ensin whatever just graduated from the accadamy"

Star Trek Requirius is on youtube!

Star Trek Requirius now has its own forum!
http://www.freewebs.com/startrekrequiriusforum/apps/forums/

How was the Trailer and Forums?

You guys should check out Star Trek: New Voyages. I don't remember the site name, but I know you can find it in google. I'm actually the VFX supervisor on their latest episode. It's a fan thing, so it's not like I'm getting paid or anyting, but the show is rather good.

We're doing the effects for the show at The DAVE School in Orlando Florida. We just finished over 40 effects shots for the show. You can go to my site if you want to see a couple of stills from it www.questionableent.com. It's old style trek.

We've have a work flow worked out that we can make these shots pretty fast now. If you get me some models(preferably in Lightwave format), I can throw some effects together for you. I can't promise a lot, but I think their pretty fun to make.

I have seen new voyages, and I think it looks REALLY well made! I would say it is in the top three best star trek fan shows (along with Hidden Frontier and Phoenix). Great job!!!

We have started filming today!

We filmed our second day of 'escape' today. We might be able to release it earlier than September if we go this fast all the time.
