XBox 360 what are the chances ?

Okay, got my 1st XBox 360 say 10 - 12 weeks ago. The top end graphics ability of it was stuffed,I do not think the majority of the gaming console community could draw this conclusion so quickly. replaced it. The replacement one s clock does not work - an easy fix you might think - but this one is also only 5 weeks or so old. So does Msoft's hardware QA suck or is it something else ?

No no, it's MS. This gen Xbox360s are STABLE compared to what they initially shipped out. Keep trying.

I take it you bought yours new? If so definately chuck it back at MS. People who bought the early Xbox 360's did have lots of problems and the QA was terrible, but they seem to have sorted all that out now.

I think you must be pretty unlucky, I know quite a few people that have bought a 360 relatively recently (including myself) and none of them have had any problems at all.

i read somewhere if the Manufacturing date was after 07 then they have fixed a few issues - cant find the thread where i read it

bought 3 for me and the kids and i asked in the shop when they were made ive got aug 08 on them...fingers crossed

As Hotcakes says, they're much better than they used to be. Not that this is saying much, because they used to be utterly awful. They still have a failure rate massively more than Nintendo and Sony, and their after sales support is still shocking, but if it's only 5 weeks old, you should be returning it to the shop, not to Microsoft. For the first ninety days, you still have a legal right to expect the shop to replace it and for the shop to have to struggle to deal with Microsoft to get compensated. I might not personally push it as long as ninety days, but I sure would at less than half that.

I have the original, bought day after UK release, it is on at least once a day, for minimum of an hour, no problems at all, solid reliable console... I read the red ring of death thing, worried, then waited nothing, after a couple of years... nothing, forgot all about it, as I said, still going strong.

I've had mine since Christmas of 2007. No problems whatsoever. Meanwhile, my friend has sent his in twice. 1) CD drive problem. Sent him a new one. 2) Overheating. I think sent him a new one.

But, yeah. Mine has been sexy ever since I got it. :)

I seen what my sister's BF's 360 did to his copy of GTA IV. Nearly burnt a hole right through the disc. I think it has Doctor Evil's "Death Star" "Laser" in it :o)

@ Panno, I see where that was going - let me clear this thread up on the RROD front - haven't had that problem.

But, regarding my clock that doesn't work - well the only game I see it as an issue on at the mo is GTAIV - the rest of my collection doesn't care about the date.

So.heres the thing - I need to research backing up my game saves to a usb stick if possible, then take the console back - for the sake of the clock. Hrrmmm. I Know Argos will replace it again no bother - but dunno if i can be bothered just for a dodgy clock when my first one Nov 08 ish had a dodgy graphics card which was pretty hard to diagnose.

I'm wondering if I should have got that extended warranty now...normally I never bother but if they are so unreliable...

You're aware it doesn't keep the time when switched off? There's no backup battery in the 360.

Mine keeps pretty good time and is switched off most of the time...

^ Off as in disconnected at the mains.

It still has power when the brick is plugged in.

I got mine on the month of the european release, and have never experienced any problems at all :)

@VIP3R, can't believe the XBox360 doesn't retain the date when switched off.... Why would they give you the option to change the date in the system settings? look this proves it:

Well you're both right. It doesn't have a battery, so the clock won't keep time if you keep switching it off. However, it should automatically grab the correct time every time you switch it on again, assuming it's got a network connection of some kind. My old one never did grab the correct time though, so there is an issue there. My new one grabs it fine though.

@Gabriel, thats interesting, my xbox360 does not seem to source time from my router. Hmmm. I do not always log into xbox360 live account upon boot up... maybe if I configured the XBox360 to boot into an online (Xboxlive) account this would resolve the problem. Thanks for the potential resolution Gabriel.

A network connection alone won't sync the clock, it won't sync until you're logged into Xbox Live. If you have 'Auto-Sign In' enabled you will still need to manually enter your profile password (if used) before it logs into Live.

was messing in GTAIv tonight - was somewat dissapointed with the time stamp functionality. I went to set the date prior to playing the game because (i think) all my XBox live accounts have expired - I've 2 children. The XBox still updated its time despite the fact it failed to log in to an account. Fine I thought. Started GTA IV - without the luxury of being able todiscern my latest save. The time I get to play the game is ltd due to the excessive vulgarity of the radio shows - not under 14 territory really - a game magazine review stated the satire had stepped up a gear - understatement of the century to say the very least. I'm no Mary Whitehouse but some of the vitriol that comes out is comical no doubt - but it makes you realise the relvance of an 18 certificate ALL over as an parent. Lost the thread and stuff now..... and need bed - but my point was that the autosave managed to save a game with the correct time stamp - but when i rejected the autosave to be safe and saved manually on the bed - the date kicked back to 2005. Hmmmm.
