Seems like the main site plus loads of other similar sites have all gone - anyone know what's happening?

Well, looks like we’re more screwed than first investigations shown up. In fact, we’re going to have to nuke the drive and start all over again. As you can well imagine, I’m not too happy right now!
This will mean that we’re going to have some downtime, as will all currently hosted sites on RR. This will be very soon - likely within the next 24 hours. The good news is that all the data is safe and intact, but with the server compromised to the degree it has been and the amount of damage caused by the defacement it’s going to take a while to get everything back up to speed. We’ll have the server back up and running within 24 hours, but it may take us weeks to get *everything* back up and running, depending on how smoothly stuff goes. I’ll be moving progress updates over to the competition blog for the time being and updating my own personal stuff over at my tumblr account.
Obviously, this also means there’s going to be a delay in the competition results appearing. For which we’re quite sorry. I’ll also be contacting anyone hosted with RR on how to proceed and hope to get everyone else up and running again within a day or two as top priority.

That sucks. Makes you wonder what goes through the minds of the people who do this - what on earth do they gain from doing something so stupid?

Guess 1:
Because they're 14 and think it's cool
Guess 2:
They wanted to sneak a trojan file onto the site for people to download and run on their machines.
Guess 3:
The wanted to utilize the server for nefarious purposes (i.e. hacking another machine/downloading dodginess) and used it to mask their true actions from their ISP/government. And wrecked the site to make it seem like that was their true purpose.

As if Oddbob didn't have enough to do already. With the results of the international competition due soon and the recent change from another server, this was the last thing he needed.
Hacking any site is lower than low. It proves nothing and causes nothing but annoyance and inconvenience to the people running the site and its users.
RetroRemakes has been an open and inviting space for anyone and everyone to discuss and share homebrew games (old and new), code, assistance,news and fun for many years. Why anyone felt it was a good idea to hit RR is beyond me. Whoever it is is just a malicious $#!+bag.
Hopefully RR and all hosted sites (including mine) will be restored soon and the perp discovered.

The annoying thing is its usually easy to track the hackers down but very hard to do anything against them legally, who wants to travel to a court in a foreign land?
Yes, you shouldn't underestimate EA when it comes to competition ;)
Good luck to RR, in my short experience with RR its been an extremely satisfying and rewarding one.
Yep there are a few of us who are hosted on the same server and the hacker targeted the lot. Bobs busy getting things up and running though.
