GTAIV - first thoughts

A little late you might think, well santa brought me a copy (my son suggested it as a present - me thinks he had alterior motives). My versions the XBox360.....

Anyway, the graphics are pretty gobsmackingly impressive. I've played it up to about mission 3, where you take michelle for a date - bowling no less. However this games is certianly not one for the kids - stating the obvious maybe but true.

Prior to playing GTAIv I was playing Fable2 with the wife with her as my henchman - and I must say I think Fable2 surpasses GTAIV for appeal. Maybe its due to the GTAIV being an evolution of the same old recipe (I've all the previous versions bar liberty city stories - never completed any of them however).

Yeah, I know their slightly different types of games - you can't do drive by shootings in Fable2 - but Fable2 is more immersive and comical with it. Its a nice slant whereby the henchman gives his xp & gold to the primary player in co-op mode.

The games that have been getting played in my house this christmas (not necessarily by me....) are in order of time played:

1: Fable 2
2: Lips (awesome.... dare i say it - competitive karaoke family fun)
2: PGR 4
3: GTAIV
4: Stramash (found it in the laptop this morning)

First thoughts, toot toot!

I really didn't find the graphics impressive, and the flickering shadows gave me a headache. I took it back a day after buying it.

@cygnus - hmm... my 1st thoughts were after roughly <120 mins of play - how long did it take you to draw the conclusion?

how do you stop your son from playing it?

it probably was an ulterior motive :)

We've been playing:

- Banja Kazooi Nuts and Bolts
- Castle Crashers
- Worms
- Poker Smash
- Halo
- PGR 3

all on Xbox 360.

That's pretty much it. My UK consoles (wii/PS2) don't work here yet...
No one seems to have played DS for some reason.

@Jeremy... nearly installed it to HDrive when at 5 percentmy son pointed out it could possibly be played without the disc... stoppped installing it to HDrive 2 seconds later. The disk is hidden where little hand cannot get it.

I reached pro-mode in PGR 4 last night! Woo hoo.


@Grey, yeah we'd worms on our first XBox also.... good fun. Banjo Kazooi Nuts looks fun.

If you install any game on the 360, you still need to insert the disc to play it. Think about it ;)

You can prevent the 'little hands' playing it if you restrict access to your gamer profile and set up the parental controls under system settings.
