Almost killed - by a console
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Almost killed - by a console
The kids came to visit yesterday and finally got their xmas presents - including the Wii which they're over the moon with.
Today, thanks to Wii Bowling, my arms and back are aching like hell. Good fun but Christ am I paying for it now.
Also had a go on Wii Golf - pretty cool but I can't get the hang of putting. Doesn't seem to be any way of *gently* hitting the ball.
Yeah that boxing is a killer, its amazing at how 3 rounds of shadow boxing takes it out of you!
I haven't played boxing yet. Had about three swings of baseball but I got bored because I couldn't hit the ball.
My best score on Bowling was 158. :)
Yoof of today hey .. ha
Back in our day we had nowt but a VCS, Decathlon, and a rock 'ard Atari joystick. Folk would waggle the stick till they had blisters I tell ya.
On the subjet of the Wii we all had a go on the Olypics game over at a friends house with all sorts of ages involved
It was a riot watching a 62 year old frantically yanking the controller and Nunchuck thingy up and down
The bowling is practically a 'walk in the park' by comparision(!)
The Wii is probably the best fitness equipment in that house at the moment
You shold try EYE toy
Try run the home run.. once..
i prommise after success you will die in heart attack.. :)
yeah, the eye toy is cool, my favourite is the karate chopping chinese flying blokes.

I'm 33! And 25 years ago I could beat anybody at Decathlon.
These days I'd get knackered just plugging it into the telly.

Yeah done an assault course thing man talk about difficult.
I was the best man at my friend's wedding a couple months back. I got seriously hooked on the Wii while staying at my buddy's house. I especially got into tennis, where I got multiple characters up into the mid-thousands in a matter of a couple of days. I think my arms almost fell off. I want a Wii.

I hate the bowling, on our system the ball always rolls to the left EVEN if I blatantly tilt the controller the other way. Happens to other people too, so it's not just me. In real bowling it doesn't happen either ;-)

The trick is to keep the controller perfectly level throughout your throw. If you tilt it even slightly the ball will swerve a bit when it touches the pin deck (the bit of alley that the pins stand on). Pin deck has more friction than the rest of the alley, so if the ball is spinning one way or the other it'll manifest itself as the ball swinging to the side at the last moment.
I know all this from when I did loads of research for Arcade Bowling six years ago.
I can throw fairly straight shots now, although they were swerving to the left quite badly when I first started playing. That said, applying a bit of spin can be quite useful. Easier to get strikes if you don't hit the pins straight on.

Same thing happens to me on that game on every system ive tried. No matter how straight, what angle, or where i'm aiming the damn remote, it always spins to the left. Even twisting to the right would have no effect.
The whole point of the problem isn't that we are managing to still do something wrong with the wii control, it's that it's obviously not like real bowling at all. The main reason I still haven't bothered getting a wii...saving the grief until its all perfected. Boxing is much, much worse for goofy controlling though, no?
I still wish I could actually find a Wii in a store.

My brother brought his over for Christmas... and I had the same problem.
...until I learned to relax my wrist, and control everything with my arm instead. In the end, it was going straight everytime. :-)
Not that I was any good at it otherwise, mind you.
christ try bowlining in real life wivout bumpers..... ermm thats what im used to at my kids parties to my demise

At least you don't need to wear stupid Al Capone/Clown hybrid shoes to play the Wii version.
im with you there....
Seems I struck a nerve with the bowling thing. There's a 5 pin bowling near us which is great for the kids!
We've had a wii for a few months now -- Mario Kart is still the favorite, by a long shot.
BOOM BLOX did me in over Christmas. And they want to outlaw GTA...
Memories of the 1500m run in VCS Decathlon come flooding back. THAT was a real good slog!
Apparently, some of the events in Mario Olympics require some extreme physical input(?) We only tried the pole volt though
It's a wonder the "health and safety" board haven't gone into Defcon 4 with all these games getting kids to do some form of exercise
I've gotten black eyes and bruises thanks to my Nephews playing Wii and Eye Toy!
There's me in pain after being accidentally slugged by a Wii controlelr/stray fist and of course, to the youngsters, it's all terribly amusing :D
ahh decathlon on the speccy, z,x,z,x,z,x,c.....z,x,z,x,z,x,c..... the hurdles...

lol been there done that.
Gfk, if i remember correctly you've said that your not a big fan of golf. but i'd suggest checking out one of the tiger woods games, i find them great fun especially when playing with others and razing each other and what not.
I prefered Track and Field:
always liked track and field, and ended up buying the xbla version without even trying the demo, and it's still fun.
I second kingNothing about the tiger woods games, they are great fun !
Diving in "Endless Ocean" is pretty relaxing too.
Think I got tired arms after playing Time Crisis 2 with light guns obsessively.
Operation Wolf in the arcades had a real metal gun-thing, it had a thin trigger that felt like a knife digging into your finger after half-an hour or so! ouch!

God, yes. "Action!!!".
