Forthcoming Blitz Games in 2009

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Forthcoming Blitz Games in 2009

Inspired by another thread about mostly mainstream games, I thought it would be cool to list forthcoming Blitz titles to be released in 2009. I'll start the ball rolling:

1) New BlitzMax Game due out in Jan (probably mid to late Jan after the Beta Test is done). I'll post about it in the showcase.

2) 1-2 more BlitzMax games due out in 2009. We are aiming for a shorter development cycle, not by reducing quality but by increasing team size (i.e. more than one programmer and artist). This way I can increase my output, yay!

Please let us know about your forthcoming titles in 2009! I won't hold you to it, that's up to you to do yourself ;-)

P.S. The one I'm most looking forward to (excluding my own of course!) is Eschalon: Book 2. Plus I wanna see what MGE comes up with after Christmas Clix, and if Michael Reitzenstein makes any more BlitzMax games. Anthony Flack seems to have changed languages so I guess we won't be seeing Cletus Clay in Blitz. I also bet that Roman from Anawiki makes some great games this year too. But I must have missed some in that little list, so let me know! Thx.

Why is Duke Nukem Forever listed?

I'm waiting for Youropa from Fredborg. I guess it was Bmax and..Leadwerks maybe?

It's not leadwerks. Fredborg has his own engine.

I might try to actually focus on a commercial game, with graphics from a paid artist.

I really want to prove my skills, because I spend so much time making small projects or text based games...

I plan on a casual number game with a space theme.

I doubt it will ever be completed it it is my goal for the new year.

Btw Thanks to Grey Alien for your advice in your blogs, they are very informative and inspiring :)

You'll see lots of little non-important games from me over 2009 while I work on various skills, and deal with my busy life. :)

Tommy Tronic will be done soon at blinkin' last. Enthusiasm has really waned but I'm sticking at it on principal alone. Bored out of my faffing brains with it.

@Sauer: Thanks! :-)

So anyone got anything more concrete like Tommy Tronic?

Maybe I had my beer goggles on for the last round of screenshots, but I'm sure Tommytronic looked about a million percent better than the pic above.

Mainly just final testing and waiting for the final bits of art to come through for Pioneer.

I'd like to say it will be out for new years day, but my artist is unpredictable when it comes to getting things done!

I want to complete a shooter I have been working on and writing about in a worklog.

There was a discussion about support for wide screens, about how ugly a game can look when it is stretched. So I have decided to rewrite the game in Blitz Max and add code that lets the user pick from all possible resolutions. The 640*480 graphics (or 800*600 maybe) will be scaled and positioned to be displayed at the selected resolution. If the user has a wide screen and my game is not made for wide screen there will be the choice between a) stretching or b) adding black bars.

To create this functionality and to test it I will first write a smaller game in Blitz Max.

After that, much work will go into re-writing my game engine, and then the game itself, which is at the moment far from finished in the first place. So I am guessing 2009/2010. :)

(Blitz3D): There maybe a little car-game of the truck dismount kind of theme demonstrating the fantastic fun that can be had with JV-ODE. The problem is in playing with JV-ODE I've kinda went and sidetracked myself of into learning Blender for a bit of 3D modelling I have in mind....

(Blitz3d/BlitzMax - undecided): And then there a little application I'd an idea for which I developed in Blitz Basic2.1 more an idea for an application that I initially bought Blitz3D for a while back before being sidetracked onto a little educational app for my kids.... Regarding the app I've had it running within WINUAE on my PC so the protottype is at least running again. I've been re-inspired to revisit my old Miggy app this year due to this recent post:

(BlitzMax): - further development of a spelling thing I hung together - big ideas to move it forward but the time/motivation needs a little work...

I've just realised, theres only 3 days left of this year - ah well next year then!

I hope to release at least a demo or completed version of a project I'm currently playing with. It'll be free since I use the 1945 graphics set from the spritelib. The project is actually a warming up for another project that's still in its design stage. Although I did write quite a lot of code for it already I'm going to trash it since the 1945 project is already better designed than the other project.

The 1945 project is called "Dogfighting like It's 1945" and is written in BlitzMax. Lua will be used for scripting. It's not the traditional 1945 clone, instead, you have an open area where different squadrons are flying in formations. Allied forces vs Japan.

I actually started a week ago, became ill for almost a week and now continued it and it's progressing nicely.

I count on releasing at least two games during 2009.

Framework and editors are done by now, and also the concepts and part of the graphics for the first game.

I also did an entire vector style library with editor in the meantime that I guess will sit on the HD for some time... I planned on releasing some freeware games made with it during weekends which didn't require outsourced graphics, but at the moment I'm still working overtime on the main one and I can't get sidetracked. Things may change a bit in the future though.

Two games from me too.

Snail Racers, for Blitz3D - If I get the time to finish it this year... (I was hoping to release it in January, but because of my second project... this is on hold - but you can watch a video on my website http://www.icongames.com.br)

"Detetive Carioca" (Carioca Detective - Carioca is the person born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) - to be made in BlitzMax (which I will buy pretty soon!) - an educational game/demo to be funded by the state government (yup! I sent an proposal and they approve it - I'm just waiting to sign the final contract - and that's why I didnt purchase BlitzMax yet) and to be distributed on public schools :)

Unfortunaly this second game is in portuguese only, so I doubt you guys would ever play it ;)

I am still working on a remake of Dragon Spirit the New Legend, and
will hopefully have a demo available soon. Using a few 'Select' play
testers, I have cleaned out most of the bugs.

Level 1 and 2 are done, complete with boss characters, and level 3 is
close to being done.

As soon as I add the story, and sound, then the game should be
ready for me to upload ^_^

I'm aiming to have the demo ready by January 10th, but will hopefully
have it done much sooner.

Anyways, you all have some awesome looking games for everyone to
look forward to, and I wish you luck in completing them ^_^

Ace! Thanks for the replies. So anyone else? (there must be loads!)

Well, Magicville is back on. Aiming for a July release date (which would make it 11 months late).

New Star Formula 1 (or New Star Grand Prix, I haven't decided yet) is in development. It's going to be a top-down 2D racer featuring the correct (though slightly miss-spelt) F1 teams, cars and drivers for the 2009 season with of course the full New Star career mode. Early progress is going extremely well and I'm hoping for a release by May.

I'm currently looking for a good artist for the track tiles. :)

I've got some basics... space invaders and asteroids. :)
asteroids, I just started a month ago and I'll release it shortly. the space invaders game is a couple of months yet. I really dislike doing the finishing touches on a game...!

You should change the name, too. Formula 1 is a registered trademark.

You might get away with it if you were making.... oh I dunno, Formula 1 Wax Crayons. But a racing game with Formula 1 in the title = very thin ice.

I'm planning on dusting off my old Blitz3D first person shooter game engine, and making some games with it.

The engine is at a fairly advanced stage of development, and just needs some finishing touches to make it usable. The first few games I make with it will just be practice games, intended to let me experiment with game making techniques.

I may also try to get my RPG engine to a more finished state, and hammer out some simple games with it.

Generally, I want to try to approach game making from a different perspective than I have in the past. Rather than being overly focussed on finishing a game (and having my coding mojo tank run dry as a result), I want to concentrate more on enjoying the actual process of making a game.

.

I want to make a simple game in BlitzMax to learn OOP. It's gonna be a sequel to an old game of mine. So far there's only a quick main character sketch:

aw come on lumooja, surely you can manage at least 2 as they say periods?

I got my message to work in SLI mode now: ..

I have my underwater project...

Working on my space combat game, no story just select a fleet to fly with & against and take part in the battle...

Have made it into a multiplayer version, so far have tested with a couple of people, it works okay but there are some minor glitches and oversights that need correcting.

from Matt

I have a Bubble Bobble type game that will likely see the light of day in '09. The engine is done, and I have a few test levels going. Programming has kind of dropped on my list of hobbies for the last few months, but if it makes a resurgence, this game could be finished in less than a month.

Yeh Gfk - I think you need to lay off the 'liquid only' diet!! Get on a 'liver watchers' course or something. I think the graphics for Tommy Tronic are the best EVER!..By me as well..awesome I am...me..nobody else...all me.

Let me guess, Hujiklo's account has been stolen? ;)

I am looking forward to Foppy's game.

I don't have a specific game in the works quite yet since I'm focussing on a more general `engine/platform`. The platform will greatly reduce development time for the games that I eventually create with it. Once the common features are in place I can focus more on game design, content creation and publishing. I figure I might as well get most of the coding out of the way, and since most games have a lot in common it makes sense in the long term to create a reuseable system, especially since I need to `optimize` my time as much as possible. The smallest amount of time for the highest yield, like a high compression ratio.

At the moment I am working on wrapping the OpenGL API for use in scripts but will then focus on a higher-level graphics system. The platform is basically a virtual operating system, so you'll be able to create all kinds of stuff with it, games, apps, tools, whatever, all in one highly integrated envirnment. Game-wise I have several concepts in mind, most of which are action or puzzle/strategy games.

Great to hear about all these games, I wish you the best of luck in getting them done and out there!

my new one :•)

You can shoot stuff in it.

Cheers
Charlie

Love the Rudolph nose on your smiley. What ASCII/Unicode is it. I know you can hold Alt down and type unusual char code on the numeric keypad.
