XBox360 headset Mic is rubbish

I just just used the headset that came with my 360 Elite pack and found that the microphone was rubbish and sounded all muffled and a bit crackly. Anyone else found this or could it just be my setup? Thx.

Wrong forum, but you are not alone. I was over at a friends house the other day and had the same issue with the mic that came with his kids 360 Elite pack. Either cheap mics or a shoddy batch.

It's horrible. Even their wireless one sounds like I'm using a walkie-talky, and has horrible quality with audio playback.

It makes me wonder if they'll up the ante sometime considering Sony's official headset kicks the crap out of theirs.

OK so it's not just me then. I was surprised at how bad it was considering the cost of the console and how well known it is etc.

The original Xbox had pretty nice ones, or at least we got nice xbox ones for Beta testers.

maybe its a 'feature' to give that realistic crackly radio effect when playing call of duty.

I thought it seemed perfectly acceptable -- I can understand them opting for the lowest viable bit-rate for audio communication.

They wired mic doesn't look very solid, fragile really. But sound quality never was an issue for me. But that may be because I usually play with fellow countrymen.

The mic isn't that great, it also doesn't help that a lot of people on Live seem to "gibber" (speak very fast and poorlly) quite a lot. If you turn off the music for the game it's not too bad, I think the noise cancelling is the problem.

Yeah guess it could be overtuned noise cancelling combined with crappy bitrate (and just crappy mic)

The default wired one is OK for most stuff. Not great, but not awful either.

The wireless one on the other hand is fantastic (I also use it and a wireless pad on my PC)

My headset is Ok.

My Xbox is in Frankfrurt though. It's taken them 3 months to pick it up, and i'm only getting one month of Live back.
