Donations for Blitz research?

BR release stuff at a good price (like the GUI module) and sometimes people make money from things they did in blitz and may want to donate some money.

So how about setting up a paypal donation button?

BRL is a commercial organisation. I believe that it has been previously stated that the best way to 'give' money to BRL is to buy some more of their products. Some people here have multiple licences of products too for this reason.

Bad idea. Whenever I see those things I read it as "I've done nothing worthy of your hard-earned cash, so please just give me some out of sympathy".

Perhaps you have just been visiting the wrong sites?!? I will donate here and there to those who give away something they could have made a killing on or something that looks like a lot of hard work went into. Granted, there are those sites that just beg for a donation without any real reason to.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned but I'd prefer a straight choice:

Either charge what you think it's worth (and people can make up their minds).

Or give it away and you get what your given.

I'm not comfortable with commercial organisations asking for donations (although it does seem to have become very fashionable; I confidentatly expect to see music executives petitioning the government to support them and their lifestyles.).

To all you would be donators, I'm sure that there are many worthy charities which would welcome your donations and put them to good use.

I agree with what others have said regarding donating to commercial businesses being a silly thing to do.

I've never charged for anything I've written using blitz stuff, so...

I thought I bought the GUI module and that there was a thread asking people to buy again or consider paying even if they got the B+ free upgrade.
I'd pay/donate/whatever for official improvements in Max2D or worthy extensions.

I bought it. Was ticked too as it didn't work properly and was very buggy and dead development-wise. Thankfully Seb Holl came along and fixed it and has improved it immensely. I would gladly donate some $$ to Seb for his hard work on the GUI. IMHO, Seb should be getting every cent made from the sale of MaxGUI.

Seriously though, if they want my money, they have to earn it like every other company does...

Who got all the money collected from this appeal?

I found the GUI module a big aberration of BRL. The time much better would have been spent on enhancing BlitzMax itself, Max3D, poking around with the website's colours or whatever.

I wouldn't mind buying a BlitzMax V2 if it would come with the right enhancements or a Max3D when there is serious support behind or a nice iPhone publishing option but making donations for a GUI module i never thought would be helpful to me, doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'd be happy to donate $50 in exchange for a way to compile BlitzMax apps on the iPhone. :)

But really, donating to a commercial organization is just crazy. I paid for my licenses of BlitzMax and MaxGUI. If they want more money from me, they need to sell me something I want, like Max3d, an iPhone version of BlitzMax, a video module (like the Theora one but with sound), etc, etc.

I agree with what some said about donations and businesses. However some kind of prepay bidding for new modules (like Max3d...) in the style of Fundable would be cool.

Here's an idea: why dont BRL decide on a price to sell their products for then we can decide whether we want to buy said products, or not, for the asking price. Radical, I know, but it might just work. :P
