I hate the whole, "You cannot be trusted to have this game unless we encrypt and manage it for you.", crap, about time some of these companies remembered who the customer is...

This is a transition. I predict they will switch over to the Euro completely in 2009.
I'd like to ask something. I've googled but don't think I'm using the correct search term.
After reading Flameducks post and the link I ventured off to the steam forums. Lo and behold there was a thread in the Genreal Discussion forum for this issue. People were comparing prices and in all comparison Europeans and people in the UK were paying more for Steam games than those who were using the US currency. Not only that but the game when bought froma retail outlet were vastly cheaper than Steam for Euro and Uk buyers.
The other thing I saw in the thred was people from Norway (I think) who said there was no VAT in their country and that they were not subject to it for their purchases from Steam yet Steam forced them to pay the vat when purchasing.
The question is is this legal for steam to do i.e charge vat to people who shouldn't pay vat?
Needless to say when I finally read the whole thread, it took a while, Everybody seemed to say the same thing that Steam can go stuff themselves.
The other thing people noticed was that where Valve employies were readily moderating threads they seem to have left that thread alone. I wonder why.
One last thing, people were very vocal at the Blatant Lie steam told everyone that buying off steam would be better because it didn't involve the middleman and prices would be cheaper all round. Cheaper my @ss.

And people wonder why piracy is rampant!? Book yourself a cheap flight to almost anywhere in asia and buy all your games for a pound each...
I don't think Steam could ever lead to cheaper prices because they would usually have an agreement with the physical distributor not to undersell them.
What are the physical distributors worried about? Don't people want hardcopies of stuff anymore?

id hate being stiffed with regards to £/Euro when buying something online, its bad enough some retailers are charging the same price for something even though the vat rate has gone down to 15% from 17.5% (and will no doubt rise in cost if/when it goes back up)
personally id be happy if the £/euro stayed at a constand 1:1, that way we in the uk might be tempted (or have it snuck in via the back door) to the euro providing that exchange rates with other currencies were also tied
