Does BlitzBasic.com do game development competitions?

Nope.

u could start one Merx ! :)

I wish there was an official competition with prizes etc.

Retro Remakes do this but it must be a remake or in retro style and be free.

There are other compos out there.

Every now and then we do a silly "Write a game in 2 hours or less" kind of thing. Those are fun, another one is about due I would say...

For Mac games (you can use BlitzMax) this one is running.

A.o you can win some money as well as a Unity Pro licence or an iPhone Publishing option.

It would be nice , imagine developing a game into a few hours.

Maybe next time. Someone should post more links on THIS forum ...

I like the idea of a Blitz based challenge once in a while!

But how long to write?
And we would need a meme, concept or idea that would focus each competition!
Would there be much interest?

How about 24hours to develope, and a random dictionary set of words as memes?

Anyone interested, we could even ask for a new forum Area for it?

They usually start, and never end. There were 256-character contests, and sometimes someone drops a silly idea, followed by dozens of solutions. You may remember a topic about potential programming employees who are asked to make a simple program, and that usually they can't come up with a solution for that. That one resulted in a lot of solutions from us, as functions, as oneliner, recursive, etc.

But isn't exactly this the nice thing about this community?! Every community can come up with a number of more or less good and bad games but this weirdness, i mean. :O)

CS_TBL had a nice media free version of Columns in one of these 'competitions' and it was pretty inspiring... I remember it helping me learn more about programming, especially with how to do media free music.

I think they're good fun and beneficial in many ways.

Oh deary yes.. it was a raw yjk image (which is like jpg, but then slightly different) and a supersmall script for a font iirc, all in strings. ^_^

And iirc all with 1 single function.. what was I thinking ^^
