Opera vs Mozilla vs IE7/8/beta8

Just trying opera for the first time as a browser, intial impressions are:

1.its fast
2.uncluttered

As long as MS keeps getting those awkward security issues it gives people the chance to explore other options. yay for opera.

I have used Opera for a long time time. Great browser
There are lots of neat features in there:

#1 Gestures (Hold RMB down, move mouse down, left, then release button to close tab)
#2 Ctrl+Return to auto-complete typical login + password fields
#3 Ctrl+Space to open a tab with the home page
#4 The speed dial page
#5 remembers all pages opened

Generally though, NO popups, safe, and pretty much reliable

I'm fond of Opera, but I've found too many (presumably incorrectly-coded, although that matters little in the real world) pages that Opera doesn't get along well with for me to be able to use it as my primary browser without a fallback. And if I'm using a fallback (in this case, Firefox), then there's a case to be made for just using that as my primary.

That being said though, I do like Opera...

Still fine with Firefox and Safari, they do what i want, mostly, so no need for a change. I'm quite interested in Chrome but i guess it still needs some more time because i had several render issues on certain sites.

A problem I experienced recently with FireFox is that I could not use it inconjunction with a webspace provider I use - somewhat bizarrely email functionality does not work in firefox.

Hmm no idea as at home i simply use Mail and Thunderbird.

I liked Opera too, but then I had to switch back to Firefox when I found that it didn't work with all websites. So far Firefox seems to be the best working with all sites. I tried also Safari, but it failed after 5 minutes of testing. The new non-beta Chrome failed after 2 minutes.

Safari is good on OSX, on Windows you should better go with FireFox.

What do you mean it failed after 2 minutes? Certain sites don't work?

Using Chrome along with AdMuncher for adblocking and StrokeIt for mouse gestures is working out great fo rme.

Its a bit worrying that after all this time, MS still hasn't created a stable browser like Firefox.

I quite like IE myself, preferred it when it was integrated in windows. With vista you can no longer CTRL+E for windows explorer and type name.com in the path and get the web page up. You have to actually load IE

At least you can still go the other way and type in keywords for apps in IE and it will load it up in windows. The one thing firefox has over IE is the realtime spellchecker, which would be handy when I'm typing in these forums :)

@TaskMaster: It just went non-responsive several times on the same page, and I had to kill it from task manager.

Interesting. I've never seen it do that. I did see it freak out on a page with some flash videos once, but it had to do with AdMuncher interacting with Chrome. When I told AdMuncher to not process the page, it worked fine.
