Forum for in-progress projects requiring members?

Sorry to bring this up again. I am just curious to see if the busy people at BRL have had anytime to give this consideration. I know there are other sites out there, like indie coder, but it would be nice to have something like that here.

It would be cool to see who needs help and people could chip in here and there. You could be needing a few 3d models, or a sound track, and someone could have one they aren't using. Sort of match up peoples skills to projects if they want to help.

I'd also like to suggest that a second forum be set up on this site. This second forum could use a more mainstream and feature rich forum script - such as MyBB or Simple Machines Forum, and would be administered and moderated by volunteers from the Blitz community (meaning that requests for additional boards, etc, would likely be more favorably received). The second forum could be open for anyone to join, so it would be a good place for potential purchasers of Blitz products to ask questions.

There are other, third party Blitz forums out there, as Ross said. Personally I rarely if ever visit them, and don't even know which ones exist or what the urls are for them. A second forum on this site would be a different matter, however.

I don't want to hijack your thread, Ross. This is just a thought that passed through my skull when I read your post, which I thought I'd air.

I agree with the separate forum idea'r, it'd be a great way for possible future Blitz users to test the water before jumping in.

I don't think the moderators should be volunteer though, but appointed by acceptance from BRL.

BRL tried having a pre-purchase forum, where anyone could join. It died a very painful death, when certain banned forum members joined and started bad-mouthing blitz.

That would be a concern, I agree. I think that with a decent number of volunteer moderators (with oversight from BRL on who gets picked as a moderator) that sort of thing could be kept under control, however.

If people want to bad-mouth the Blitz languages, there are any number of third-party forums they could do that on, with very little that BRL could do about it. The main difference with the new forum I suggested, is that BRL would have ultimate control over the forum, and could take action if anyone got out of line.

Personally I don't care if the forum I suggested allowed non-members, or only allowed existing members. If only existing members were allowed, it wouldn't be difficult to sync the forum database with that of the official forum and disable new registrations.

The main point of the forum I suggested, is that it would be a semi-official sandbox forum in which users would have more of a say in how the forum is structured, and in which BRL could take a backseat in regards to moderation. There are a variety of additional boards that this site could benefit from (commercial trading boards, etc) which will likely never happen due to the added moderation overhead that they would introduce for BRL. There are also a variety of useful features which the new forum could introduce to this site - such as private messaging.

In the end analysis, I think that a second sandbox forum would liven up this site, and would help sell more product for BRL as a result

Yeah, i agree mostly with what your saying. Lets hope they have enough time and are willing to put thought to this.

Maybe have the public forum that can be community moderated, with some kind of report button. That way if x# of people report the thread gets locked or deleted. Enough threads get deleted and the user gets suspended.

I always thought it a real shame that there was no incentive for non coders to be a part of the Blitz community. Makes it hard to find artists and musicians when the community is effectively closed to people that don't purchase a programming language. One that they most likely have no use for or interest in.

Why don't you just start your own forum... if a lot of people think this is a good idea, certainly you could get enough Blitz users?

@Sauer - As I already mentioned, there are already a number of third-party Blitz related forums. The new forum I suggested would exist on this site and would be one that BRL would have control over. I suggest that you read the posts you are replying to in future.
