1112, nice adventure for the iPodTouch/iPhone
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/1112, nice adventure for the iPodTouch/iPhone
First person 2d (combined with 3d objects) adventure which makes good usage of the iPod's input capabilities and comes in the episodic flavour, six parts, the first one sells for €6. I find this very interesting as it proves that adventures work very well on such a device. With the right engine and reasonable restrictions a pure 3d adventure would also be possible.

I love the art style, but iHate iPhone's, iPod's, iToilet's, iEatHumans', iGoogle, etc.
Well, i guess you can either hate a device or just enjoy the game.
Sounds good. I just got istore working today on my iPhone and downloaded hidden expedition everest.
That means 60€ for the complete game? Oh my...
I am working at a games development company too, making an adventure game for the iPhone. It's an old-fashioned Lucas factory game, based on the Call of Cthulhu license.
6*6=?
Further episodes are reported to be reduced to €4.
It is a shame it is only available for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It had the potential to be a good game.
Well, actually it is a good game.
It's really amazing how natural the multitouch handling feels after some time, playing around with the safe combination by moving your fingers on a virtual wheel, activating the handy inside the game by just holding the iPod more in it's vertical, ... very cool!
I can see a game like Zack and Wiki working well on the iPhone.
There is a video of 1112 available on youtube as well, beware it contains a few spoliers and they've redesigned parts of the interface for the final version.

Eww - the control method doesn't seem to work very well. The player's thumbs obscure everything on the screen.
As i said before they redesigned the user interface, the video is from a preview version. They for instance altered the linear menus to pie menus (Maya). Moving the finger over the screen has the same function like when you're moving your mouse in order to explore a scene in a common adventure, rollover text is shown in the upper/left corner.
In the final product it worked without any problems and not a single click/gesture ended in Nirvana, at least with my fingers. I guess you shouldnt play it if you have more such Wrestler hands and your thumb already covers half of the screen. It might also help cutting your fingernails before playing, hey you could do this once a year! :O)
The thing is, when playing with the mouse, the pointer is a tiny spot on the screen. You can't say the same for a thumb. But maybe this is one of those things that needs to be tried to be appreciated.
Yeah, it's always best if you try it out on your own. I just can say from my experience that i was very pleased with how the input is done and it's works in such a satisfying way that it adds to the gameplay.
