OUTRUN

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/OUTRUN

You guys remeber when this game came out? I remeber seeing a movie, walking past the usual arcades in George street, Sydney and being floored by how good this Sega classic looked back in the day.

Always wanted to buy an ex arcade unit but never did.

I think half the charm was the cheesey musak and sense of urgency.

Sweet ride :p

Looks like it came out in 1986: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OutRun

I still play that in Mame on my 'phone :)

It's still my fave racing game, even to this day. I love the music, the graphics, the speed, the scaling effect and how relaxing it all feels, despite the pressure that you're put under. OutRun 2 was ace too.

I can almost hear SplashWave and Magical Sound Shower right now :)

i used to have a version of that game on th C64 and or very old computer, but to me nothing beat playing it on the arcade machines. at that time it was probably one of the most amazing games i've seen/played, that and altered beast.

Good old times from my C64 and Amiga (Turbo Outrun), and I still play Outrun 2006 today

outrun2 is on the original xbox (;-)

Nostalgia's not what it used to be.

Come on guys, Outrun was crap! Yeah it was OK for its time but who in their right mind would play it now? Play Burnout, or NFS, or PGR, or Forza.... or something.

PS, Gotta love those square wheels. I fitted some to my car. Those were the days.

I love the C64 music by Jeroen Tell, for me it's better than the game. The game was fun then but I gotta agree with GfK that a modern racer is just way better.

Sorry, but I DO actually prefer OutRun to Burnout and Forza 2. Forza 2 is the dullest racing game I've ever played - absolutely no fun - I finished my first two races in first place and didn't bother playing again The only other racer duller than Forza is Ferrari Challenge on Dreamcast.

Give me the arcade style thrills and spills of OutRun any day over modern racers. Yes it has dated, but it's still a tricky game. And OutRun 2 on XBox picks up exactly where the original left off. Fun all the way.

Gfk - who in their right mind would play it now? Maybe not on a PC / EGGSBOX or whatever, but on a candy apple red, hydraulic arcade machine with thumpin streo sound?

C'mon!

I loved Outrun when I was a kid, but then I played Daytona USA and Outrun became a fond memory.

Outuns competition (in the day) came from Le Mans 24hr, a rotary console that was a little less forigiving than Outrun.

The next big game in the genre for Sega was POWERDRIFT. Now that was a funky game. From memory, if you completed all tracks and won each race, your buggy would change into a motor bike?

What about RENRUB RETFA ??????? Anyone know that name?

I still play Outrun on the consoles via Sega Ages. :)
