Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Whats your favorite Genre(s) of games?
I personally like puzzle games... adventure/rpg is second... games like zelda that bring both together are my favorite ;)
Here's a fun puzzle game:

found myself playing nothing but starwars battle front once on the xbox (had boxed alot of my other games away so that might have had something to do with it ;) )
some sand box god games worked for me up to a point, parts of dungeon keeper just let me down but startopia kept me up for hours
currently not played any games in the last 2-3 months
normaly cartoony platformer/blasters, but been playing halo 3 with my kids on live for 2 weeks solid...and im still cr#p
- Casual games like Peggle, match-3s, etc.
- 2D graphical adventure games
Adventures, i don't care if they are 3d or 2d as long as they are good, retro style games, roleplaying games, puzzle games, shooter if they come with a story like Half Life, no multiplayer games at all.
The last games i played were A Vampyre Story (PC) and Tap Tower (iPod).
Perfect Dark with my kids recently, in the last day Mass Effect - that is some game. Bit like Halo but more depth - we recently got Halo 3 to.
Can't for get the Project Gotham Racing Genre - I've got 2 & 4 - they are some games!
As far as indie games the chalk physics and the gravity sand/fire/oil games got a lot of play.
Adventure Games
First Person Shooters
2D Platformers
I tend to like RPG's and adventures, especially if they're text based.
Driving games; Gran Turismo, NFS etc.
Anything where you have to shoot folk; MoH, Timesplitters etc.
2D platformers
2D shootemups

I highly recommend Medal of Honor Heroes II for your new Wii then. I like it best of all current FPS's.
Big openworld RPG games that can keep me occupied for several weeks (although it'd be nice if game designers gave a bit more progression choice rather than just get a bigger gun/sword, more outlandish armour and kill more monsters).
Don't know if you can call the Total War series a 'genre' in itself, but definitely my favourite game 'series'. Very much looking forwards to Total War: Empires in Feb.
2d arcade, platformers, puzzle, shooters. Have never found a 3d shooter I like. :(

JRPGs - particularly the Shin Megami Tensei series on the PS2.
Action-Adventures - such as the various 3d Zeldas, Ganbare Goemon on the N64 and later Wonderboy games on the Megadrive.
Platformers - Jet Set Willy on the Spectrum and the PS3 Ratchet and Clank games are two of my favourites.
Point 'n' Click Adventures - Monkey Island 2 and Quest for Glory 2 & 3 on the PC are fantastic examples.
Non-realistic racing games - I particularly like Wacky Races on the PS2 and Diddy Kong Racing on the N64. I also quite like the Wipeout games.
Stealth action games - I like some of the Tenchu games on the PS2. I'm only interested in period stuff.
Tactical Turn-Based Strategy Games - X-COM, Jagged Alliance, Silent Storm, etc.
Hello.
Games that I can pick up and put down again quickly. So guitar hero/rock band, SSX.
And Larn, obviously.
Goodbye.
Use to be FPS and RPG, but I haven't done much FPS in ages, and now it's probably Casual and RPG.
RTS ... I seem to belong to a dying breed...
@MadJack - I'd forgot about my total war series addiction, I have almost broke that one now.

I used to like RTS games, but once you've played one, you've played them all. After playing a handful of them back in the day, I got so thoroughly fed up with the same stale gameplay that I couldn't bear to play them any more. Of course, you can say the same thing about most genres.
Co-op baby!
A good western fantasy RPG is what I like best. None of that Japanese junk.

You might want to try Dawn of War or Company of Heroes (especially the latter). Relic really re-invented the classic RTS genre.
I mainly go for first person shooters.
FPS's like HL2DM (where there is skill involved -- bunny hopping and gravity gun [luv' me some nade throwing]), RPG's (namely the style of Ultima Online - isometric and alot of freedom - and Titan Quest) and isometric strategy games (Age of Empires 1&2, Civ4, etc).
Good RPG games like The Witcher. Must be good and actually have a story prevalent throughout. Not like Oblivion.
On that same line of thought, good space action / adventure RPGs. Tachyon: The Fringe and Freelancer spring to mind.
Everything else thus far has been a regrettable experience. Especially X3, although it may have just been the voice acting hurting my brain. Something about that game's grinding, illogical mixture of accents reminded me of Star Wars.
Team-based multiplayer first person shooters. Again, reasonably deep ones. Left4Dead fits that spot for me right now, and a few excellent Half-Life 2 mods do as well.
Adventure games. (Eg: Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle and Myst).
