I remember playing Rise of the Triad when I was a little kid, boy! that's the most disturbing game I've played. And even that didn't made me cry.

That's interesting to see. Re tears rolling down the face - I have that problems when playing marathon Guitar Hero/Rock Band sessions.

It reminded me of a show I saw recently where a reviewer and his mate were demonstrating Guitar Hero and saying how cool they were and how attractive they would be to the opposite sex (firmly tongue in cheek). I know I chew my lip and stick my tongue out when playing and I'm pretty sure it makes me irresistable.

The girl shown above is brilliant! I wonder what she was playing - Return to Calculus, perhaps?

This video should be called "Retards" rather than "Immersion".

Did nobody consider that the games they were playing all appeared to contain knives, guns and violence, yet most of these kids appeared to be under 15 years old?

Apart from being morally and ethically dubious, and possibly against the law, is that all kids want to play nowadays? Are there no alternatives that kids want to play, like when we were kids? Could they have not selected more age appropriate games?

I'm not on any moral high-ground, but with all the talk of potential harm done by violent videogames to minors, and I presume the parents gave consent for this, should there not have been a disclaimer or something?

I am a parent to an 11 year old and I do vet the games my son plays - I do allow violence, and even games containing horror like Resident Evil, but only when I'm present and I have played through the game first. I do not let him play games where you are killing what appear to be actual people or where violence is used purely for the sake of it.

Without any disclaimers, this video appears to condone the playing of violent games by young people. And that can't be right, surely?

This is how everyone looks whether they're playing games, reading, watching films, sitting in a lecture, anything where you're meant to just sit and observe. It really doesn't make any point over computer games. People probably look worse watching soap operas, because with most games you have to think a hell of a lot, yhour spatial awareness and memory, not to mention hand eye co-ordination are at their peak, these kids minds are on fire, shame about their faces, but that concentration for you, or constipation by the look of some of them.

Of course they edited it to find some of the more entertaining bits and probably used a chromakey for the background. So these are probably the most expressive parts of the footage. It's even weirder when there's no sound to put things in context.

Shame there weren't any racing games where people sometimes lean and drag the controller from side to side.

I tend to shout at the TV when I play video games. I'm far more animated than these kids.

But I don't spend hours upon hours playing video games so maybe that has something to do with it.

So fake.

What i would like to see is video gamers filmed by genres and see if there are any similarities. How do adventure gamers look like, how puzzle gamers, how rgp people, ...

i want to see people playing wii, they get very animated :)

Anyways, the most disturbing thing I found (except for the number of violent games - particularly GTA4 and the boychick - the photographer subjected these kids to) is the number of kids that just... don't... blink.

BLINK YOU TWATS!!! I can't imagine what that is doing to your eyeballs. Once I started noticing it I noticed three kids in a row that didn't blink once. I'm not sure, I mean I guess I may have missed them blinking because I started forcing myself to blink. But at least the boychick blinks.

I also doubt how natural the environment was. If they knew they were being filmed (as suggested by the endgame dance) there's more incentive to modify your regular behaviour.

yeah of course, they had to know they were being filmed, so I'm sure they played to the camera somewhat.

I'm pretty expressionless when I play games - focussed on the interaction. My expression probably resembles Zombie girl's.

It's nuts to thrash about, roar, scream and swear at the monitor screen.

Unless you're playing on a Wii - in which case thrashing about is the order of the day.

@ JustLuke .....nuts to thrash around? Man, I played the original AVP with the lights off...I challange the most hard core to not reel back and scream like a girl when face-hugger is in full flight.

Remember that level in HL1 when you first came to the cliff edge? Didnt you feel the vertigo and react accordingly?

Seriously? A game has that effect on you?

I have jumped in games like Resi, Silent Hill etc. etc. but never, ever screamed like a girl. But then, I don't find very many horror films scary either. I don't even think my heartrate rises much while watching horror movies nowadays - they all lack tension and atmosphere. Not like the good old days of The Thing, Salems Lot and The House On Haunted Hill (to name just a few). Good old tension at its best :)
