Christmas Indie/Casual meetup in Vancouver

Sounds good, is that new Vancouver in the East Midlands, if not and its the other one which is one or two miles west of the U of K - I might have to decline this christmas. Would love to, and if its still going on in 2 chrimbles time you never now, I might be there.

Somebody (i.e. not me) should organise a UK one. There hasn't been a Blitz one in over four years now.

Well we are hiring game programmers at the Vancouver studio. We need people with experience and a good knowledge of casual games. Candidates that have a good CV/resume who pass a phone screen and who are really keen on the idea of moving will be flown over to check out the studio and meet everyone in Seattle and be interviewed etc (like I was).

I'm going to have a chat to the missus about it. I was on an anti-government rant the last time I brought up the issue of emigration and I'm not sure she thought I was serious. If it was just me I'd be there.

Well... had a chat about it and she'd love to go... if we had fewer ties here. I guess it was the expected outcome since we've got four kids to think about as well. :/

@GfK: Fair enough. Regarding my own situation, we had a lot of ties: Two kids going to school (both under 8 years old so that helps), house with mortgage, car, an Aikido club I was running, two sets of grandparents in the vicinity, tons of friends, cat, loads of furniture and other stuff, + more things I'm sure. Be we liked the idea of having an experience and a fresh start so we just cleaned out our stuff, rented the house and said good bye. Moving continent is a BIG thing to do though, bigger than moving house. But it's a growth experience is how I look at it.

I'm suggesting Wed 17th Dec as a date, 7pm. Location Yaletown, venue to be decided but we need somewhere we can talk without shouting...

That is a shame. You have a track record and if GA is an example, you can use BlitzMax for the work. With the economy being what it is, the casual game market seems almost recession proof. Even in our local Target, the shelf space for the casual games literally doubled two months ago.

Yeah we just had a company wide meeting and one of the points covered was that casual games are recession proof. The new MCF game has sold tons in the last 5 days too.
