Putting ads on my website

I'm thinking about putting ads on a website I'm working on, since I'm not selling anything and making some profit would be nice. I've never done this before though, so I have some questions.

I'm thinking, maybe Google ads? I'm not sure how this would work, if I would get paid a tiny amount regardless, just for people visiting my site, or I get paid only if they actually click on them.

Where could I find information on this?

You only get paid per click. But unless you get thousands and thousands of visitors per month, it probably isn't worth it. You get next to nothing per click.

I make about $30-40 per month from adsense. This isn't much but it's a free game or two per month.
