XBox 360 film download expensive ?

We downloaded our first HD film to our XBox 360 last night/this morning. We're on broadband and the 360 is on a wired connection to the router. Despite this I think it took about 12 hours for a film. How much leccky do you think it cost on top of the 380 points to but the film ?

I suppose it becomes more feasible if you have REALLY broadband.

anything over your tarrif and the rates sky rocket (i was 60mb if that over my 3gb once and doubled my bill)

@Ross C, yeah, and thats deducting the hour my kids played the XBox when they got up in the morning (it stops downloading then). Don't get me wrong, I think Microsoft have implemented a revolutionary film rental service - maybe if they slashed their prices by 50% it might make it worthwhile leaving the XBox360 on for 12 hours to download a 4.6GByte film.

2000 points for £17.00 - roughly 380 points for a HD movie. So the films are not free to start with. Yes, you save the hassle of driving to get the movie (8miles round trip), and then the same trip to take the movies back.

So, Microsoft are providing a film service for roughly the same price as going to your local film rental. Great for people who live in the sticks - but then do they have broadband anyway?

You save the hassle of not having any other way of watching a film in HD as well, in many cases.

A shame that most people don't have unlimited bandwidth. Sure, a 720p film isn't >10GB and thus is eminently downloadable by a good portion of broadband users, but not everyone is so lucky.

The lack of 1080p content says a lot for the filesizes involved. I dread to think of the low quality encoding they would use for a 1080p release. It would look worse than SD.

We're a decade away from fast, cheap 1080p feature-film downloads.

The one thing is with FreeSat there is a limited choice at the moment - and I abhore paying SKYHD prices. But playing the XBOX360 in HD is such a feast for the eyes. PGR4 replays are so close to being real it is untrue.

We bought Keflings - an online game where you play in a three d world using your Avatar as a player. Very ingenius - so do not get me wrong. I believe Microsoft are breaking new ground in a lot of ways with their console - and I've never developed such a sense of awe for a gaming console before.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Xbox 360 and what Microsoft is doing with it. Not quite as focused as what Nintendo are doing but on a personal level I like where the Xbox 360 is targeted.

If the Xbox 360 were opened up fully so that I could run emulators it would be my perfect console.

I resort to using my hideously expensive laptop to run emulators instead. Not really ideal (considering the 230W power supply needed to run the thing) but it emulates just about anything in sight, short of a PS2 (which it can emulate, just not fast enough).

Yeah, emulating the Amiga on the PC still astounds me. Especially how swich the graphics can look on re-scaleable applications. Apparently the Amiga can be emulated on an original XBox.... little project for christmas maybe.

Emulating an Amiga on a 533MHz Pentium III (original Xbox) is not a great deal of fun. Interesting for some undemanding A500 games, but little else. Remember also: no keyboard.

This is why I want emulators on the Xbox 360. You can easily plug in a USB keyboard and I'm certain that some enterprising folks would write drivers for USB mice. It's got enough RAM to emulate a very expanded Amiga, plus emulate an Amiga graphics card as well. Essentially, anything WinUAE can do on your PC.

Microsoft really have outdone themselves with the protection on the Xbox 360. The only thing you can do with a hacked Xbox 360 is play pirated games. I haven't seen any hint of a homebrew scene at all.

I will buy an Xbox 360 (again, I've owned two) when I can run emulators.

The only people that it's worth using the film download fascility for a people in the US that have a Netflix subscription as they get to download whatever they want for free (lucky b******s). For everyone else there are better alternatives.
