Hey, i recently set up an alliance and leicester savings account. And ever since then, i'm getting fake email messages telling me to log in.

I appreciate these could be random spam, as per usual, but it seems a bit funny these emails have started coming since i opened that account. How did the spammers know?

maybe you have spyware which is sending out your browsing history?

Cookie harvesting is also quite common, although there are much more basic ways (shred your mail before you bin) to find out info and sometimes they don't even require ANYTHING from you. For people in the UK there have been so many opportunitys to access our confidential data for criminals provided by the incompetent government recently I'm surprised we don't see much more of this.

I had an attempt on one my credit cards recently that was blocked and they had my:

Name
Address
Card No.
Expiry

The attempt was from a country I've never visited by someone I'd never heard of and for a card I rarely use and have never used on the internet.

If I were you I would contact the bank straight away and have a new account created with new numbers and have a new card issued.

Hehe, good point. I'm probably too late to check for spyware, as they already know my account exists with them.

It's an online account only, so i'll just change my password and see if i can get my login number changed too. Thanks.

You may use your favorite internet security suite to scan all harddisk for safety.

I use Nod32 and Super AntiSpyware Free edition. Works for me.

I often get phishing SPAM like this reporting to be from banks/building societies I don't even have an account with. It may just be coincidence.

I almost fell for a paypal one once, as it arrived whilst I was using the paypal site and had just requested that it send me an email. It looked so genuine.

The email link took me to a web page and asked me to login, I typed in my user name and got to the password and paused...

Thankfully the email I had requested was to remind me what my password was.
