So I've got Vista installed and I'm using a Samsung Syncmaster 245T and I've set the desktop res to match the monitor res. Anyway, all black on white text in Vista often has a sort of red or blue anti-aliasing effect round some of the letters. It's subtle but noticeable nevertheless. I've installed the screen drivers but it's still there. Any idea what could cause this? I'd have thought that any anti-aliasing of black onto white would only use greyscale colours anyway...

It's definitely "cleartype" that's causing that, but it's strange that it looks bad - in my experience Vista's text looks really nice (much better than XP). I'd try adjusting the contrast/brightness/color balances of the monitor before turning off cleartype completely, because that makes text even harder to read (blocky).
It's subpixel antialiasing. Probably your LCD uses BGR instead of RGB which is why it looks weird.
For XP Microsoft had a Powertoy to fix it not sure if Vista has the same, but this page might work for Vista if the powertoy doesn't.

If that's true, Samsung should be offering a proper monitor driver that will make the appropriate conversions when necessary.
Hmm, something I'd never heard, of BGR instead of RGB. Doesn't affect me with my greenscreen box, mono FTW!
I just put my dell 22" widescreen on my son's Vista.. and 1680x1050 looked every bit as clear as on my XP.

One thing that helps is that you press the button on the side of that TFT screen :)

Yeah I have an Auto button but when I press it it says "Not available", cool hunh?

How is your display connected to the PC? Via hdmi or one of those lcd connectors?

via HDMI (via a splitter cable out the back of the video card).
I tweaked the cleartype settings with the XP Powertool and it's better now. At least I know what it is and that graphics won't suffer from the same thing as it's just a Vista text "improvement"

a splitter cable? what for? is the connection on the card DVI, HDMI or VGA?
