What've you been coding in off late....
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What've you been coding in off late....
Didn't want to dip into the top 5 usual blah as a topic heading, what have you spent the most hours coding in, in order of time spent in each discipline in the last 6 months, s'only a top 4, then what do you want to code in for kicks in the next 6 months?
1: Scripting (Unix flavoured)
2: C (destined for ... Unix)
3: Blitz 3D with a splash of JV-ODE
4: VB.net (sorry.. front end for No.3 - but I have got B3D & BMax fae BRL)
5: not strictly coding, but doing design blah for 1 & 2
Blitz 3D is running a close 2nd... in fact it might even be running 1st. Can't be sure though. Am looking forward to the verbose 'c' language dropping right off my radar (;-) Might do a splash of BMax, python & a slice of java - just to bump C right off my top 5. Stumbled acorss a nice palm programming app a while back...
Game engine (tilemap engine, scripting - think quake, media handling, memory encryption, etc.) and a business project (basically finished). All BlitzMax :)
1:BlitzMax (making a small script engine)
2:C#
1. PHP
2. Javascript
3. PHP
4. BMax
@ziggy, your BLIde website looks very impressive. Protean is my primary IDE for B3D, in the new year I will hopefully be re-invigorated & be able to explore using your very polished looking BMax IDE with Greys framework. Again, BLIde is very well presented on your website.
Thanks! I'm not a designer so it is much appreciated!
Objective-C -- haven't touched anything else simultaneously because you need to maintain a certain mindset to avoid memory leaks under Cocoa Touch.
1.Pronto 4GL - for stuff at work
2.VBA for Excel - for stuff at work
3.Blitz3D/Blitzplus - odds and ends, bits and pieces, tinkering
No project at moment.
1-Blitz3D
2-BlitzMax with MiniB3D
3-C++
@Matty, yeah, my 1,2 & 5 were for work blah. I'm almost over the post traumatic stress now.
Pronto 4GL sounds good though!
@ziggy - no bother - your website looks exceptionally professional - might even ask you for advice in the distant future when I can be bothered improving www.wishingwellsoftware.co.uk
@Sledge - much respect. have not done 'objective-c' but earned my stripes in that C blah and sum. Don't mean to sound bitter - but Blitz is Soooo with an 8 on it's sides more o's productive and gratifying. with that in mind, we all need to jack in our jobs, club together & form a small significant company that'll wash the floor with our game releases in the future.
So, whos in ? , ermm not me for another 2 years and 9 months. But then we're good to go ? LMAO & die laughing some more - but hey stranger things have happened.
@Mortis - I so look forward to my list resembling yours.

Wellies and a gold lamé thong.
ahh, the gold lame thong..... the wellies IDE just brings out the best solutions.
1. Gamestudio - will be playing around more with Lite-C as opposed to CScript
2. C (3impact) - Strangely my 2 years (1 year of updates and 1 year to upgrade anytime) update period was over 6 months ago but I still got an email from 3impact about upgrading to the new 5.8 engine. Maybe they have decided to go back on their policy or something.
For the past 4 months nothing because of stupid military service. Well, after Christmas that is finally over, and I can get back to programming, probably C++ and BlitzMax.
1. C++
2. PHP
1. C#
2. Python
3. Java
@nawi - i empathise,
I kinda fancied a bit of C#, the question is C# or C++? I believe the answer to that question lies in where you want to work.
1. Java - Doing a project management system
2. PHP
3. Python
Starting from the language I enjoy the most:-
C++
C#/XNA
Blitz
PHP/JAVA
Dabz
BlitzMax
C++
Java
[shed door opens]
This week, I are be mostly coding...
C++
BlitzMax
@Dabhand - I'm interested as to why you favour C++ over C#/XNA - is it familiarity or something altogether more interesting ?
@REDi - ahhh, you can't beat a bit of Fast Show humour:

1. C# (work)
2. Flash (work) - Uurgh!

1. PHP (work)
2. BlitzMax
3. Lua
4. Perl
5. C++
Although I haven't done a lot of coding the past 2 weeks. But that's because of Saints Row 2 :-)
1. Blitzmax
that's it.
For myself:
Mono C# and irrlicht on linux & windows.
For work (I got a new job btw :)
C#/asp.net on bindows/IIs and php+sql+zend on linux/unix servers.
Ill just add that asp.net sucks, its slow, clunky and not nice at all. The only good thing about it is it is C# language and the autocode is good. Other than that PHP5+zend framework is MUCH nicer.
Merb
c# - probably 95% of what I do
python - 70% of my prototyping
blitzmax - 30% of prototyping
blitz3d/plus - misc. little things, mostly due to boredom and whatnot
If it weren't for a couple of obstacles currently, I'd be working in boo or iron python mostly.
PHP
HTML/CSS (although these aren't really programming languages)
SQL
Javascript
Java
That is all. :(
1. C# (with Unity).
2. Blitz3D.
Blitz3D and Visual Basic 2008

5. Html
VB.NET
VB6
Everything else is pretty much off the radar at the moment.
