FM2009 - Usual online activation woes - usual lies

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/FM2009 - Usual online activation woes - usual lies

I opted to buy the retail boxed version of FM 2009 rather than faff about on Steam.

I now find that buying the retail version is of no use as it won't activate.

The product *claims* that it was unable to connect to the internet. It wants me to check my internet connection.

What they meant to say is - our severs are busy all day every day and you cannot activate the retail version you just bought and carried home.

How is this anything but an incentive to download pirate/cracked software? There is no point paying for software that you cannot use when you can just steal it and pay nothing. What is the incentive to pay for this?

EDIT:
Oh, and opting to activate by telephone results in a dead-line.

Mmm, looks like I take it back and get my £27.99 back and get a cracked copy then? Strange way to run a software industry? You hand the money over, they don't hand the game over - you pay nothing, you play straight away.

The product *claims* that it was unable to connect to the internet.
Firewall?

It doesn't connect without it

I even flew blind on the internet with no AV or firewall.

It's their problem - this whole shift to DRM is bent.

Heh, just looked at the wiki for the game:

Issues and Problems

On 14th November 2008 there were a number of complaints where gamers would mistake 0 for O and 1 for I, due to badly printed activation keys, prompting Sports Interactive to warn fans they could easily be making mistakes.[5] Numerous buyers of the game have also expressed their frustration on FM Forums over the new online or telephone system needed to authenticate the game, as there have been many problems resulting in many fans being unable to play the game. For some, when asked to type in their authentication key, a error report will commence, claiming that 'Your free trial version has expired.' For many others, the online authentication process does not work at all, and the 'Steam' authentication process terminates before completing. For some people, all 3 of these problems appear at various states of installation. Many buyers of the game have been left flabbergasted and disgusted at the incompetence of SI Games at their almost incomprehensible manner of which they have chosen for the game to be installed, with many loyal fans of the game claiming that they may stop buying all future versions of the game if the problem persists.

A patch was also released on 14th November 2008, fixing a number of capability issues.[6]

how do you install it...mate if i knew i would tell you....

That might solve your problem

I just bought FMH 2009 for my PSP and going to play it now :)

No.

The problem is Sega/SI/third parties lied to purchasers

L I E D!!!

They posted a load of lies to get the game activated - uninstall - reinstall - switch off AV - do this - do that.

I was right - being somewhat knowlegeble with tracing internet connections.

All the lies about the customer's PC not having an internet connection and all the other lies was to slow down the amount of people trying to connect to the servers.

THERE WERE PEOPLE WITH A/V OFF AND FIREWALL OFF FOR LIKE 5+ HOURS.

Sickening.

All they had to do was tell the TRUTH - the servers are busy, try again.

Scum, scum, scum.

EDIT:
Anyway, I activated my copy myself.

I feel the pain of those who are still suffering - I feel their pain.

I feel the pain of those who are still suffering - I feel their pain.

My friends been having kittens trying to get it activated. Stupid servers, told him he might have to wait for the servers to free!

i'm not purchasing anymore games with online activations drm
except online games ...

I make sure not to let a game not activating ruin my day. :)

Another fine reason I stick to console games, oh my lovely Wii and 360 :)

oh my lovely Wii
One day I will find one of these legendary Wiis in the store.

heheh.

You might well buy Football manager handheld 2009 which is pretty fast (5 hours a season) as it is much better than the pc as it take you 3 days a season I think
