I've done a complete re-install of XP but can't get System Restore to create a restore point - it just says restart the computer and try again.
I've tried turning sys restore off, rebooting and turning it on again. Google doesnt seem to offer much more advice.
Not sure if it has ever worked on this PC, TBH - it's one someone gave me.
Anyone got any bright ideas?
Running out of hard drive space?
Not that. This is a fresh install on a newly formated 150GB drive.
anything in the event logs point to trouble? at any rate, i found this possible solution:
"Right click My Computer/Properties/ click on the system restore tab. Put a check in the box for Disable Restore on all drives . CLick apply, then Reboot your PC. Then go back to the System Restore tab and turn it back on, click apply. Now go to the System tools/Restore... Choose, Create a Restore point. Type in any name you want, such as Restore Test. After that is done, then go in and Try the Restore point. High light the one you just created and choose restore. See if it works now."
stayne: yeah, that's the same advice as I found googling but it didn't work. Thanks, though.
Anyway, good news! Though, slightly odd... unrelated to this issue I realized that after the clean install that some accessories hadn't been installed - like Paint, Calculator. So, I installed them and tried System Restore again on a whim and it suddenly works!
God knows what difference it made but at least it seems to be behaving now.
