I thought that this stuff was for dating websites, not online games.
It basically is. Second Life probably only appeals if you play it enough. A bit like sprouts :o)
I play Second Life. I dont date in it although I did try once. I see it as nothing more than a chat room and a barbie doll simulator (dressing your avi). I dont think i'll stop logging on any time soon as i've met too many friends in it, but the real good friends in Second Life I now talk to outside of the game.
My best friend is a girl I first met in Second Life, and there's others I exchange text messages and piccies with although i've not met more than I guess a dozen or so in the real world.
Fundamentally it boils down to little more than a laggy way to social network.
Where it falls over however is the fact that almost everyone "in game" tries to have a relationship and the problem here is that many people have partners or are not interested in ever taking their Second Life relationships further... Here is where the problems comes because some people do want the relationships to go further and the nature of anonymity means that the former group isnt always honest about their long term intentions.
In any case no matter which way you look at it every relationship online is at it's core a real relationship for as long as real feelings are involved. So dating in Second Life is cheating on a real life partner - only the sex is simulated (which is all rather daft to me).

Its a lot like when you go in McDonalds and they have pictures of perfectly assembled burgers on the menu boards, but the reality is that it looks like something that's been wrestled from a rabid dog.
If they showed you a picture of the genuine article, they'd be out of business by the end of the week.

o.O I'm all hurt and everything! Actually I dont have a telly... (people who watch telly have no life and 1Ghz IO busses and almost a gig of video RAM).
I think both smilertoo and Banshee are right - TV &/or games are both an immense "waste of time", but if you enjoy either then so what? People have to have relaxation, and reading a book doesn't cut it for everyone.
If, however, you are addicted to one form of entertainment (say, 10+ hours a day playing World of Warcraft, or 10+ hours of TV), then I personally don't think that is healthy. Having said that... if you have no work or family commitments that are being neglected as a result, then it could be argued that it's doing no real harm (aside from, as mentioned, being unhealthy physically and possibly mentally).
