I've moved to Vancouver

So we arrived in Vancouver yesterday afternoon and are staying in a nice house in Kitsilano for a couple of months whilst we look for a more permanent place. We went out for a walk this morning to check out the shops in the area and ate pancakes with strawberries and cream for breakfast.

I bought the boys a Nintendo DS each because they are only $129 here which seems crazy cheap compared to England. Next up is an Xbox 360 (I'll start another thread about that).

Haven't been to the BFG office yet, but will pop in tomorrow to set up my Uber PC and check out what else needs doing.

On Fridays lots of game developers meet up downtown so I'll go and hang out and see who I can meet, sounds like good fun.

Well done mate. I remember when you first decided to go full time indie developing and the pressures that put on finances and home life. It sounds like it's really paid off in the end, this is excellent and a bit of an inspirational story to others wondering if it's possible to get a foot in the industry door by simply working hard and getting some games out there.

OK, if you have a car in Vancouver, make sure to pay your parking when you go shopping, or else you get a parking ticket quite easily! Just saying because I had one while in vancouver several years back. Have you visited Stanley Park, is it planned?

@Andy_mc: yeah it was a gamble but it felt right, I worked hard and was enthusiastic and it paid off. I was telling my Aikido club in my final lesson before I handed over to my highest grade that if an opportunity presents itself, you should take it. I've done that many times and things have worked out well. Of course if an opportunity turns out to be a dud, never mind, just make a change because you are in control - but at least you'll have learned something and won't be thinking "I wish I'd taken that opportunity..."

@33: No car yet. I have to pass a driving test here first as my UK licence is not valid. Also have to save up som money for a car!

@IPete2: Thanks! So far the family is having a great time and are excited, there's lots to do here. I'll keep everyone informed of news.

@Mousey: Yeah we see it as a fresh start and an exciting adventure. Lots of new stuff to learn and fun to be had.

Yeah if you see an opportunity then take it.
I dont have any regrets, but I say to my mates its better to regret the things you have done than the things you haven't.

Congrats Jake, well done on your move. Just started a new job myself recently, although nowhere near as adventurous as yourself - my new office is across the car park from my old one (;-)

My last move 5 years ago was 500 miles or so though.....

I'm going to New York next Christmas, and me and the Misery were planning a whistle stop tour of people we know over there.... Basically, the first being Phil (The plumber)

But Red Oct lives over there too which I'd love to meet, and now its an almighty bugger to see if we can manage everyone, because She-Who-Must-Be-Fed will play war if we've got to jet set!!!

Grrr, and theres me thinking all BlitzCoders came from Yorkshire! :P
