mobile laptop broadband recommendations

yeah there seem to be a lot to choose from. The vodafone package looks ok. Any suggestions?
I am looking for the usb stick that plugs in to a laptop. Most of the usb sticks seem very expensive, up to 99 quid.

3 is a mobile network like Vodafone, O2 etc. 3G is a protocol - you have WAP, GPRS, and 3G (in order of speed, slowest to fastest).

I'd do a bit of research on 3 before giving them any money.

But on the subject of 3G, you can't get it unless you live (or spend a lot of time) in a major city.

I've used T-mobile for a couple of years, and been really happy with it.
Vodafone pushes it's higher speeds, but you've got to be pretty lucky to achieve it.

its ok but not the bees knees, but ive not compared it to the others, iir there WERNT any others at the time of me getting it, im thinking of upping to the 7gb data tarrif (thanks to red vs blue and remix.nin.com)
it would be nice to pay for connection only and get as much as you like out of it like normal broadband, but this is mobile after all

This whole business of choosing a provider is way too complicated as there are lots of little catches in the small print on everyone I look at.

problem on the whole with mobile broadband is the 3gb limit.

On the subject, which is the best provider these days for home based broadband.
I am on AOL and its been ok, tiscali was terrible.

the PAYG one you can buy 1 3 or 7gb months, but i dont think you can top up credit like with talk time, you buy the 1gb and that might be all you can use, buy the 7gb and use 3 you dont get the rest rolled over to the next month

I'm on O2 Broadband. I have an O2 mobile so I get a £5 discount on the normal price of £12.50 for 8mb broadband - works out at £7.50/month, or would be £10/month for 16mb.

O2's service has been pretty faultless. Very happy with it. Their own DNS servers aren't great, though, so I use OpenDNS instead and everything is fine.

Do not under any circumstances go with Supanet. I was with them before O2, and their speeds were below 0.5mbps 99.9% of the time. Then they tried to charge me £40 after the first year to get away from them and their customer advisors are among the rudest I've ever had to deal with. It took a lot of calls to Ofcom before I managed to get a MAC code out of them and the ridiculous £40 charge waived.
