That's surely not a hologram.

The just blue/green screened her and then overlayed the video.

I saw that this morning and thought it looks tacky and totally un needed, the same with their "magic" screens using microsoft touch software (it also crashed last night live on TV)

but wouldnt it be good to play video games in total 3D ! :)

The interviewer or whoever in the studio does not actually 'see' the 'hologram'. They have to act like they can see it. The effect is added after the fact, albeit in close enough to realtime.

If anything they are probably gazing across empty space where the 'hologram' will be added to maybe see a flat screen off stage so they can interact with the other party.

The impressive thing is the use of multiple camera angles and moving shots. They must have corresponding views of the subject and synchronise the switching and movement. This is done quite well - although it is a tad over used to just show off the effect.

So rather than 'real moving 3D holograms' we have "faked and very contrived appearance of what 'real moving 3D holograms' would look like if displayed in 2D for a controlled and quite limited situation".

Not really a big advance towards gaming in 3D.

I hated that hologram bit - a case of technology for technologies sake with no gain in functionality over the older way of doing it. (IE, having the other person's face on a monitor)

If you can actually see it, sure.

Holograms distort the reality, because normally TV newsreaders are wearing only a nice jacket and tie and underpants (which are hidden since there is a table in front of them).
