I can't believe the speed of blitzbasic.com website Its probably one of the fastest loading websites I have encountered. I would like to run my site on a similar server as blitzbasic.
What kind of web server is blitzbasic.com running?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What kind of web server is blitzbasic.com running? The loading speed of any site depends on dozens of variables. The server software is probably the least important of them all. Any of the popular web servers (Apache, Zeus, etc.) can do the job just fine. If your own sites are slow, your server hardware could be underpowered, your server/PHP/whatever configuration might be sub-optimal, your host could be too many hops off the backbone, or you could just have a slow spot on the route between you and your servers.

the winnign formula seems to be that the blitz site uses a simple php engine on an apache server so it's fast on a dial up or broadband connection.
Even the gallery page runs quickly because the code is simple. The day this site becomes flash based will be the day it crawls to a halt. For an example of how bad it can get: check out http://www.mftkd.co.uk it's my tkd unstructors site, and my god it's aweful.

woah Andy, that page is a trip down nostalgia lane, it feels like 1985 all over again looking at that.
I say looking, although in truth it hasnt actually loaded yet and I dont think it will for some time.
The key to page delivery speeds is down to CPU and bandwidth levels on the server, with simple code, as few resource files as possible, and a dedicated host you can have very fast responding pages.
Put the same page on a shared host with 50 other web sites and that might no longer be the case.
The firm I work for has pages with some intense calculations going on and so many OO calls I can only guess how many individual files on the hard disk are accessed for a typical page view, 50 perhaps. It's not fast, for the most part this is ok because of what the site does - although public areas sadly suffer as a result. Our solution: More servers...
EDIT: Would it constitute stalking if I turned up to have a go Andy? Don't wonna freak you out lol, but that club is pretty close to me and seems like a good way to continue improving my fitness.

yeah, by all means, can't say you'll see there much though as I'm currently stuck in Dubai for most of the rest of this year, I'll probably get one session in before christmas.
Ah, the life of a software implementation consultant, people think it's all five star hotels, foreign shopping centres, beaches and dinners at nice restaraunts, and you know what? They're right. But someone has to do it.

hehe no worries, seriously I been looking to progressively do more and more exercise since I had a operation at the start of the year, and i'm looking to get out more - it's practically on my doorstep so it's 2 birds in one stone. I'll probably have given it up and returned to a pub by the time your back from Dubai, which wierdly - i'm ducking out of the need to go there in January myself by conveniently booking a holiday on that week...
