Vista Administrator Privileges

Do you guys know how I tell vista to set me as the administrator. It's telling me I can't install something on my own computer.

right-click>>run as administrator?

Somebody told me to write this in a dos prompt
"Net user administrator /active:yes"

I have not tried it my self yet!

Under Vista, by default 'administrator' still doesn't have full access to everything, although it does have permissions to get full access. The good thing about this is that it prevents some spyware and virusses from infecting your system, the downside is that it can be a pain in the rear if it won't let you do what you want to do.

right click -> run as administrator will take care of most of it, and so does turning off UAC (user access control). Downside of the latter is also that it means it will be easier for bad programs to mess up your system since most of the safeguards against it will be disabled.

But we're all still here after years of using Win95, Win98, WinNT, WinME, Win2K, WinXP - none of which had UAC. Just turn it off. :)

I turned it off within a week of using Vista, I couldn't stand all the pop up intrusions. That was over six months ago, not had a single problem since.

As GfK said, all previous versions didn't have it and so you still take the same safeguards yourself - don't open unknown e-mail attachments etc.

I just turn UAC off, same here no problems since.

It got to the point (very quickly, too) where I was just clicking OK without even reading what UAC was complaining about anyway.

I turned it off within no-time as well -- the biggest problem I ran into is that when you do certain things from within a DOS prompt (which I still do a lot, especially using the UnixTools command line suite) UAC will block them from happening, except it doens't pop up the window asking you permission to proceed: It isn't just annoying, but flat-out doesn't work.
