Basic#

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Basic#

I can't help but think if BlitzMax was named Basic# or B# (to imply it was a Basic based language, but had similar capabilities as C#) it would be a far more popular language.

...and the 'most stupid thread of the day' award goes to me :) But seriously tell me I am wrong?

Marketing never was a strength around here.

I don't like Basic# at all, but Blitz# doesn't sound so bad. Really though, I think BlitzMax is fine (many competitors names don't refer to the language / scripting they use - such as Unity, Shiva, Torque, Cobra).

Yeah but C# is an obvious musical pun. What the hell does Basic# mean?

But seriously tell me I am wrong?
You're wrong.

First off, you don't have any idea how popular it is since BRL don't share sales info. And before you say it, counting the number of forum users is no measure of its popularity since a lot of Blitz users don't bother posting here.

Second, Blitz# is a stupid name, and B# isn't much better since it doesn't offer any clues as to its origins.

Haven't been on the forums much today so I can't say for sure, but I'd guess you're probably right. Shame you never thought about that before you clicked the 'Post' button, eh? ;)

C# is supposed to be pronounced C sharp, right? I didn't know this for years. So in that sense I think BlitzMax is a better name.

@GfK :) My poplarity rating is based on knowing BlitzMax in relation to the use in employment...ie none.

...or you could put that down to the blind ignorance of your employer.

Even though 'Blitz Max' is really excellent for developing with I guess there are a million and one programming snobs out there who would say, "You written it in Blitz Max????, what's that then, a programming language or a condom?"

Personally I cannot think of an alternative and suitable name change.
Blitz Ultra sounds awful. Besides, what you you supercede it with?
Using 'Basic' in the title would give the impression of a simlistic limited product

One a similar note I really hate .NET for a language name. It implies that the language is only for t'internet ( ..Peter Kay thing! ..)

Oh, and should this site be called http://www.BlitzResearchLtd.Com ?

i would like to see a sales graph of how the demographic for blitz is made up

How about Blitz#=$

Supercalifragilous Expialidocious.... Sharp! :D

Dabz

I know, let's call it BlitzMax! Oh, wait...

BlitzM#x ? ^^

Why not call it Ñ@ ?

I think it can be called Blitz# ...

Just personal preference, BlitzMax is a cool name.

How about Blitz@#$%!!!

sod the snobs, I like BlitzMax, Blitz3D and Blitz Basic2.1.

I clocked Blitz3D on a cover of PC FORMAT about 3 years ago - and I was a huge fan of BlitzBasic2.1 on the PC. Have BRL considered / done a similar release for Blitz Max - if so all well and good. I'm all for BRL having a good foothold in the market place.

B# is an excellent name, no one would know - at first glance - that it was a 'Basic' language.

but B is before C so its 'c**pier' by default, i believe there is a D language, i think they also work on D is after C it must be better, but i dont program (at all) in either language and always thought C,C++ and even C# to be pointless names

basic it even had an acronym
assembler sounds techie
machine code ooh sounds techier
lisp, ever considered speech therapy
Cobol another acronym
C care to buy a vowel
java, am i meant to drink it or wait for it to erupt?
perl ... hmm do we need to open alot of oysters in debugging?

and in 1984 peter cushins character said they had gotten rid of very good and excelent, instead they had good, good plus and good plus plus (and good sharp in the microsoft edition ;) )

There's already an A, B, C, D, E, ...

http://home.nvg.org/~sk/lang/lang.html

I think this calls for a "New language name and caption" compo

M25 - An interpreted super slow basic with limited storage capacity - Just llike the british motorway

LandRover Pro - 6.8Gb download and £10000 per licence. Buy hey, at least you will be one up on the Jones's

DarkBasic - Write just like you would in PLAIN English - Cool example being MAKE OBJECT PLAIN!

iBasic - Because I want to upset iApple by iSnagging this iName before they do

i had to enter my password to download a free song from iTunes and didnt even know i had one
so i clicked the remind me button and it redirected to iForget :D

lets see
iTV hmm nope gone
iGor gone too
iDon't know a rather inefective search engine?

apple haven't trademarked the i<whatever> term have they?

I'd go for BlitzPlus:+1
or Blitz Object Orientated Basic Syntax (BOOBS)

Personally I like... "B!" You could do all kinds of things with the logo with that one. Meaning "fast, excitement, etc, etc". :)

iBasic - Because I want to upset iApple by iSnagging this iName before they do

Except that ibasic already exists.

Anyway, I think that BlitzMax itself is a decent name -- if anything, 'basic' has a pretty negative association as being a beginners language not used by 'real' programmers.

Blitz# sounds like a C# wrapper for blitz.

I dont think blitzmax feels anything like C# at all, other than the fact it has OOP. (If anything its is more akin to VB with B3D style keywords).

Right. Like the hamster fodder that is VB :-)

B#

Bsquare
cant be bothered looking up the square symbol ;)

B.Max or BeMax - or read as 'to be at max'

BlitzMax is a good name.

Tell me how you call the symbol #: in italian is 'cancelletto' or 'diesis' - the tranlation (in music) of sharp.
Of course 'sharp' (in association with C#) means 'as intelligent/right/brilliant' (I suppose...)

In any case - after so many years - changing the name is useless...

>Personally I like... "B!"

! is also the "not" operator :)... I dunno if that'll give programmers a proper impression.

lol... oops.... forget the B Not! :) lol...
