Running UK guitar amps in Canada/US

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Running UK guitar amps in Canada/US

Anyone ever done that? I have a lush Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 122 (100W valve amp combo) that I'd love to take with me but I'm wondering if amps like that can accept two voltage inputs but I'm having real trouble finding any specs on the Internet.

Has anyone had any experienced of international amp usage? Thx :-)

A lot of UK equipment is either dual voltage or has both tappings on the transformer.

You can pick up 110-240v transformers pretty cheaply. Just stick a consumer unit between plug and US outlet.

Yep, just get you a transformer for it. I have to use one here in Korea. It's no big deal.

have you looked on the back? my old marhsall combo clearly states 110-250V input

skidracer: yeah, regretably it clearly says 230V 50Hz input. Although it does say it can take two fuse types inc. one for 110V. So it looks like I need to get a big transformer for it (it's power input is 350W) over there. I'm loathe to sell it as it cost nearly £1000.

Still got a JCM 2000 DSL 100W Valve head and JCM 900 Lead 1960 Cabinet to sell...Plus 2 guitars...and only 2 weeks to go.

lol.....I can just imagine you switching on your guitar amp and games consoles on the first day your over there.....with one hand reached out and the other holding a pillow over your face waiting for the sparks.

Can you not give your stuff to a friend or relative to sell for you whilst your 'over there' and they can paypal/bank transfer you the money?

Might do that with the big stuff, but it's finding someone reliable.

I'll do it Jake - I'm fairly local. Let me come over and pick up all your stuff to sell and then I'll Paypal the funds right over... less my 95% handling fee of course. ;)

splutter! ...

Was in Maplins today and saw this. Got my phone out to text you, then realised I don't have, and never have had your mobile number. :*)

Well thanks for the thought. I'm going to need a high VA though to run the amp, but I've seen them for about £50. Yeah I'm gonna take the TSL and try to sell the DSL and cabinet + Ibanez Bass and Washburn steelstring accoustic. Wish me luck! Just been cleaning them up and taking photos. Now to place the ads...

Wanna swap the ibanez bass for some magic beans?

uh, let me think on that, what do the magic beans grow into?

Just advertised the lot for free with a local paper (which has an online Exhange + Mart). We'll see what happens...
