Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/what have you mainly been playing this week...?

picked up another eight titles for my 1st gen xbox for 30 quid, I must say I'm impressed by spartan. the hack and slash produces some pretty impressive slow-mos (a bit max payne esque) with some interesting game play and quite astounding graphics. Hitting a 60 foot tall talos with catapults is well done....

What've you been playing this week and why.... Oh yeah PGR2 got some pretty good mutilpayer action to while away the hours whilst away from home recently.

Nothing. Bought NFS Pro Street for my PS2 for £8 about a month back and its still in the plastic wrapper.

No time. :/

World of Goo, which I use as a way to force myself to take breaks from work. It's a good game to play in short spells. Then I took a day off on Tuesday, first time in ages, and I played a lot of Saints Row 2. Really good fun. I'm sure it'll attract a lot of comparisons with GTA IV, but it's really a very different game, much more arcade and mindless fun oriented.

I hope to be spending a bit of time with Fable 2 and Fallout 3 quite soon though.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky (Great atmosphere, I love survival games)
World of Goo (Just to relax and have fun after work / school)
Painkiller - Black Edition (Playing 1vs1 over Hamachi with my bro)
Guitar Hero III (This game is never getting old, I love it)
Far Cry 2

Oh and I am going to get Bully: Scholarship Edition tomorrow.

Yeah I am hardcore player.

world of goo

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Best. RTS. Ever. (Although the AI is too easy). This has stayed in my DVD drive for months.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed on PS3. Cool graphics, lots of fun.

Forza Motorsport 2. Incredible if you like racing sims.

Does it count when I play my own games during testing/debuging? :-)

We're just watching star wars III at the mo, cool film - appreciate it all the more after seeing the numerous scenes in lego star wars. And it possibly looks all the more impressive due to the fact I became accustomed to telly on a 14" potable for the last three weeks, now I'm watching films on a 42" HD box it seems all the sweeter.

Fable 2, ohh yes, the reason for santa to get an xbox 360, or is that santa to get my children one? I can't be sure. Then there is PGR III.

Back on thread, I treated my kids (or me...?) to Age of Empires III for 15 sheets - and Never Winter Nights Deluxe has been given a new lease of life since I upgraded my main PC from a paltry 640MBytes to a gargantuan 1.5GBytes. nice.

Fable 2
Far Cry 2
Rogue (http://www.hexatron.com/rogue/index.html?) can't get enough

Tetris Ultra and Tetris Sprint on Facebook, oh and a couple of goes on pathwords leaderboard. Those are the only games I've played in a couple of months really.

Absolutely nothing ...

Oh wait I played Topple on the iPhone but that was only to examine a potential competitor for the game I'm working on. I haven't played anything for pure enjoyment this week.

Me - Folklore
GF - The Sims 2 <sighs>

My own game. I'm jealous of the rest of you who have the time to play games.

My eldest son has been playing Advance Wars: Dark Conflict on DS which I bought for him at the weekend, he loves it.

Still Team Fortress 2... must push little cart!

and Zombie Panic:Source... getting ready for Left 4 Dead

Bought PES 2009 for PS 3....they havnt sorted out the manual passing who I want pass to. I was going to get FAR CRY 2( 25 pounds at tesco) or LA MidNight but went for PES 2009 instead.

AT-43 (which is a tabletop wargame, not a PC game, but is a game nonetheless.)

Haven't played a PC game in some time, I've usually lost interested by the time they finish installing and/or I've watched a nice prerendered intro sequence.

Saints Row 2 (PS3)

And I'd agree with Gabriel's comments:
Really good fun. I'm sure it'll attract a lot of comparisons with GTA IV, but it's really a very different game, much more arcade and mindless fun oriented.

Better than GTA IV, IMO. Though I've noticed some stuttering frame-rate / performance issues in some areas.

Also, I've just started Farcry 2 (PC). Too early to make a judgment, but I like what I've played of it so far.

I have been playing indestructo tank which is really hard to beat and get all of the levels... The only reason I am playing it is that I am basing a game off of it so it is good to know competition.

Blazing Angels on the Wii - excellent fun :)

Saints Row is beginning to sound like it might be worth a dip, do not have PS3 though.

Advance wars on DS, yep thats a good tuen based strategy game that.

Had a quick go of PES 3 on the PS2 yesterday, never quite sussed out all the moves - which just increases the frustation at not being able to score - maybe if I didn't insist on being Scotland it'd increase my chances - but I was only playing wales - then again it looks pretty much like ryan giggs is in PES 3!

a little never winter nights 2 - its pants, but i was bored + it isnt
demanding to play - jst, well, kinda crappy.
Was thinking about x3:terran conflict - but not too sure... im guessing
it will be more of the same + i havent got a spare life time - the game
is so damned slow... more a simulation than a game..hmmm - still, until
they create the new elite..looks like this is it..

i own black site - played it once - its slow on my system + i dont like
all the damned blurry fx... maybe its a good game, but i dont think i can
be arsed with it..

i wanna try spore - looks good...

um - ive drifted off topic - sorry.. ;)

yeah , nwn2 doesn't seem as appealing as nwn1 for some strange reason. Maybe it's coz I can play nwn1 online with my son, but NWN2 demands such processing power for multiplay it's a non option. This morning have been 'playing' in B3D,JV-ODE & VB.Net.

Eve Online :)

Team Fortress 2 ... on one of those modded 24 hour 2Fort map servers where you can build multiple sentries and spies can cloak longer

..just played far Cry 2 on my friend machine..and i leave it within 30 minutes...nice graphics and game..well..really nothing nothing new..

NWN2 for me felt like I was playing a game of nintendo's character link in disneyland. In that first bit after leaving the village of happy simpletons, I half expected to meet the seven dwarves, a chocolate sweet house with a witch. I did try and stick with it, but it was so dumbed down it was almost a casual game :(.

Much prefered the first game. If you haven't already, I'd try something like the Witcher for some modern grown up NWN like goodness.

@AdrianT, yep I kinda felt the same way about NWN2. In fact, We're still getting some mileage out of the online worlds made in NWN1. I spotted the witcher recently but its outa my price range at the mo... probably computer spec as well.

Team Fortress 2 ... on one of those modded 24 hour 2Fort map

Yay! Another Blitzer which plays TF2 :-)

Shame you play 2poo.... only kidding! ;-) I'm really into the cart maps at the moment.

World of Goo. I completed it earlier tonight :(

Here's my list for last week :

Crysis - Single player mode and over Lan
GeometryWars
Unreal Tournament 3 - Lan
Rappelz
SpectraBall

I should program more then play, but also started on some kind of 3d pong for over network just to test it... Never tried someting in 3D or over network before, so it was a bit of a challenge. Still working on that.

Saints Row 2 and Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway. But the last few days I've been mostly programming :-)

Company of Heroes
Just finished Mass Effect
Waiting for Fallout 3

I bought FarCry2, and it was kinda nice and good looking, until I accidentally fired up Crysis.
Then I realized how crap FarCry2 is, and now I'm buying Crysis: Warhead instead.

I spent all of last week playing Rainbow Six 3 Vegas on the 360(I'm too cheap to pay for new games). Loved it.

Just finished Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (Took 2 days). Best WW2 experience I ever had.

@Digital Anime - good luck with your 3d over network stuff.

Been coding more than playing lately.

Last games though:

Tank Universal
Operation Flashpoint (my favorite)
Flight Simulator 2004
Thief 3 Deadly Shadows
Conquest of the Aegean

Fable 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour are the games currently being played in my house. Both on the XBox 360.

Sorry to read comments of this sort. I think Far Cry 2 is absolutely great! It's definately one of the best FPS this year. For those who still wonder, they should read some of the reviews and judge by themselves.

30 minutes is about how long the tutorial plays, but then you have the regular missions, and then it get's more involving.

If you read that back very carefully, you'll spot something you didn't mean to let slip.

lol pwnt!

I have no idea what you two are on about. Have I missed something?

I think that "Gabriel" might think that "Lumooja" was using an illegal copy of Crysis as he said he is going to buy the new Warhead version. It's two separate Crysis games

The Games being played in my House this week are Wii Sports. Brings some sunshine into the living room on those cold winter nights - right, off to watch IRON MAN then SAW II - what a night in.

Started playing the new Call of Duty game "World at War", its still in beta.... but plays very much like Call of Duty 4.

I dont know if I will buy it, as it feels more like a mod than a new game, but since its a free beta at the moment its cool.

Still playing The Witcher, and I recently discovered a Half-Life 2 mod called Empires which has really impressed me.

Too much of a busy week to play at all and I've been travelling too much but last week I had a big push to try to finish Ninja Gaiden 2 although it is getting annoyingly hard now.

Darkheart

I generally don't play video games extensively, but this is one I've really gotten into this past week: The Battle for Wesnoth. Its a turn based strategy game with fantasy elements. Extremely similar to the Fire Emblem games, but is hex based.

Check it out at www.wesnoth.org. Its free for all platforms, there's hours of gameplay, and you have the ability to create your own scenarios and maps.

So far I've been extremely impressed and satisfied with it, and its free and runs on Linux :)

I've played quite a bit of Wesnoth. :)

I just got Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.
It's stealing all my time!!! :-)
Awesome game!!!

I've played quite a bit of Wesnoth. :)

Yeah I've reached addict level. I'll sit down to play one level then 8 levels and four hours later I get up.
