How much competition do u see that this will provide for the psp-3000...

I thought the DS was already way ahead of the PSP in sales. They've really got different games for them and appeal to different people. The DS is sort of like the wii, in that non-gamers will buy a DS but only really gamers buy the PSP. Also the DS is much more popular with girls too.

In a few years anything that's not also a phone will be too redundant to matter anyway. The PSP and the DS are both a part of history to me. Even the kids these days have cell phones that can do most anything. I think Nintendo will have completely lost the handheld market within 5 years unless they make a phone.

As it stands today, I think this thing will suffice for a little while. I don't see it as a game changer. If you like Sony I don't think this DSi will change your mind.

Nintendo's share price went south shortly after they announced this, so apparently the market in general doesn't think much of it.

Everyone's share price went south after the economic crash happened. It wasn't just Nintendo and had nothing to do with the announcement of the DSi.

No, it *was* just Nintendo and it was *exactly* because of the announcement. It was all over the traditional (ie: non-computer) media along with direct quotes from the venture capital companies who are stockholders indicating that the DSi had "failed to exceed their expectations".

Oh? Interesting! Well in that case I can see where they were coming from. I didn't think the stock price dipped that much upon the press release. It really plummeted when the credit freeze occurred. I look at it pretty much everyday. It's been dropping steadily for a while. It's gone back up by about $10 in the last week though.

Just wait until it's released and 3/4 of Japan start selling their grannies to get one. Every iteration of the DS (whether it be a hardware upgrade, special edition or new colour) has had a major boost on sales. I see this being no different.

Sure it's not a great imrovement over DS, but it's not DS2 - why should Nintendo give everything up so early? Why not just add a few touches to the original and remarket? The DS has plenty of life left yet and the DSi will only extend it. When that starts failing, Nintendo will release DS2. It's how they work.

I disagree with the phone bit, i get along perfectly fine without a mobile phone. What i would be more concerned with is if it also plays my music.

Sounds good, i like the SD card slot addition which i think was missing for the original DS.
Might buy one even though i already have a DS.

Indeed. The rise of stupid people has been precisely in line with the rise of mobile phones, leading me to believe that the things cause brain cancer :P
That, and telephones are evil.

im all for mobiel phones so the iphone is the perfect mix of media.. there isnt much it doesnt do...(i cant wait for the comments on this one).. gettin one soon.. but look wat i found.. this will kill ya..

The iPhone is the best device I've ever used in my life. As Trip Hawkins said, it's better than Star Trek. Forget the DS and PSP, they are dust in the wind.

If you dont have a Wii, you really dont need a DSi.

If you want to play GBA Games, you cant buy a DSi.

If you want to spend more money for old stuff (like GBA or NES Downloads/ released 10 times ago) you must buy a DSi.

;)

bye

Except, you can't play traditional games on the iPhone. No dpad and no buttons severely restricts what types of game are possible.

I'm as much as fan of the iPhone as anyone, but let's not get carried away here.

i agree if it was easy for me to develope on id be making ds games the market is huge.

What can't you play? I have racing games, 3D platformers, flight simulators, shooters, RTS, and puzzle games on mine right now. I'll admit Bugdom 2 is kind of hard to control but it's completely playable and it could be better if maybe they made a touch screen D-pad instead of using accelerometer controls.

id be all for that, i got worms for my viewity and without a keypad i have to swap between cursor and number pad view and its a pain, so im limited to what is nativly available for the phone to get best results and at the moment that just leaves bejeweled

im all for nintendo, sega and snk releasing legal roms at a REASONABLE price that you can buy online and play via SD cards in their latest gizmo (even if its just a vlsi? of the old hardware slapped in a joypad with SD slot)

ok that gives rise to more and more piracy issues, but if my mobile can be a dongle to my music downloads (thought it would be the phone number but all songs refuse to work in my new hand set) then whats wrong with forcing the user to have said toy connected to the pc via usb and dling a rom thats encrypted to that machines unique user id

edit:
just started reading the kotaku post
The DSi features a built-in browser, and it's possible to download games and keep them on the DSi.
