I think I have started a few of these over the years, and quite frankly its about time to have a new one.
Simply post up an image of your desk:

1) 3x22inch LG LCD's
2) Intel Core 2 Quad, 2GB Ram
3) 1.25Ghz G4 iMac
4) Star Trek Enterprise 1701D Commission Plaque
5) (not shown) 1.75Ghz PC Laptop, aka 'craptop'
Here's mine...

It hasnt changed much since I moved in about a year ago, except for the addition of another monitor and white board.
Seems everyone these days has about 3 monitors. I'm way behind the times :D
Nice desk boomboom. I thinks you surely must have cleaned up before you took that photo though :OP Same with you uncle. Way too tidy!
Only 1 screen here, but I do have Wharfedale's as my PC speakers :)
My Desk
Wow.. you are all so tidy... :-p
You won't be seeing a picture of my desk.
It looks like I belong to the society for putting things on top of other things.
<Warning Incoming Rant>
CALL YOURSELVES PROGRAMMERS?!?
Where's your dirty mugs, (with at least one growing a kind of strange mould) and 1/2 read mags?
Why aren't there sweet wrappers all over the place?
Are you all store managers at IKEA?
Where's your glow-in-the-dark "life size" grey alien!
Shouldn't at least one of those computers have it's out casing ripped off?
And where the hell are the flashing lights and window panels on those cases anyway?
And for goodness sake get some decent, honest, clutter on those barren desks, there should be at least 1/2 a dozen cases and strewn loose discs around your work areas and a good 1/4 inch of dust under those deks.
Honestly, these programmers today; they'll be getting girlfriends next...
<End Rant>
;)
Darkheart
my girlfriends desk is messier than mine.
But then she does play a lot of RPG's
CALL YOURSELVES PROGRAMMERS?!?
That's exactly what I was thinking ;-)
Currently on my desk:
Two monitors
Two PCs
Two sets of speakers
A dirty mug
Some piles of papers
My mobile phone
A collection of pens, most of which don't work
Two boxes of 5000 staples
A stapler
My 'book of debt' :/
Digital camera
Pop filter
Microphone
A new ink cartridge
A Pifco(tm) fan
A yellow highlighter
Keyboard and mouse
A spare mouse that I can't be bothered to put away
Various cables that I can't be bothered to put away
Baby scan photos x 2
USB xD card reader
A 7 in 1 card reader
Some xD memory cards
A stomper
A Dalek
A bunch of keys
Three hand exercisers
A lamp
A printer
My watch! Wondered where that'd gone!
THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a desk!
Darn Right!
;)
Darkheart
THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a desk!
No, GfK, that is an incredibly boring list of items.
What boomboom requested was an
image of your desk.
GfK, compared to my desk/room you're a complete n00b :P
Well I am the girlfriend, so my desk is quite tidy. Well, every second Tuesday it is anyway, that's when the photo was taken.
Pah .. wimps. Here's mine (*cough*)

My alternative 'more basic' work area
Theres way too much clutter on your desk Jim. That PSU should be on the floor and you have a built in mouse on your laptop. What were you thinking :P
lol.
Maybe get rid of that laptop too. Ahhhh, clean and fresh.
This is a proper desk.
Heh. Is that Noel Cower's desk?
This is a proper desk.
It sure is, but a real coder wouldn't be seen
dead in a chair like that - he'd be all over that trash heap like the king of tramps upon his stinky throne.
There should be a closet, not a chair.
@Jim and markw
*lol*
I somehow would expect some 8 or at least 5.25 inch disks lying around there.
cant be botherd taking a pic and uploading it so here is a list ala gfk
random cd's strewn all over the place
both my zoom h2 and h4 digital recorders (and my old olympus one)
a 'broken' phone
2 monitors although only one connected
external hdd
random paper inc till recipts
blade runner collectors tin
and a great big pile of junk that i tried tiding a few days ago strewn in front of it
and here i am sat 5 foot or so away on my bed the only seating in my room with keyboard on my lap so does my lap become part of the desk?
well if it does atleast i havent got one of those 'touch your crotch' keyboard trousers
Jim, your desk is as barren as your desktop image :o)

It's actually not that dark but if I use the flash it looks too light.
And for fun a small picture of my Tamiya rc cars, also on my desk.
I think GfK moved into my house cuz he descibed my desk.
I can't SHOW you my desk, it's burried!
Al Gore has a real desk too.
My desk has a corkboard behind it with pictures of my family on it to remind me that I've got one :-)
Ok behold the greatest desk...
-Got Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo hooked up to the TV, as well as a DVD player.
-Cool ancient computer, which is now my dev computer because the laptop shown had a harddrive malfunction.
-Keyboard for playing songs... you can also see my trombone, accordion, and ukulele.
-Notice the cool Sega Game holder under the monitor.
-Behind keyboard: Mini football helmet of my high school where I played, gold plated elephant poop, and Jon Kitna (NFL Quarterback) autograph
-Looks cluttered now, but all condenses quite neatly... everything is super organized although it may be hard to see when it's expanded.

gold plated elephant poop
Very nice!! High five!!! :D
Sauer, that has to be the wierdest computer layout I have ever seen!
Mine is too horrid to show, suffice to say it has 4 laptops, one desktop and a server, all running misc OSes surrounded by coffe mugs, pizza boxes and beercans.
Well, I found it was the best way to include all my stuff in one desk area. Not a lot of space where I am living :)
Yeah, I win the prize for coolest setup and best collection of crap from the mid-90's.
Sauer -- Where on earth do you put your mouse?
My desk fluctuates between pretty much complete bare to completely covered. It takes a few months to build up, and gets emptied again.
Just a single screen though -- I love dual screens at the office, but at home it was more annoying than helpful.
It doesn't get the whole office, but you said desk so ...
Of course my goal is to reach Jim Brown's first example but I'm doing OK for now.
Jeremy,
You be careful not to take down the local power grid
yes, you know happens... blinken lights with countries ;)
Here is my setup for the past year or so.
How many external hard drives there zawran? I have that printer! I found it in a skip at uni :)
Here's mine, in my miniature student room, annotations if you click on the pics:
Desk no. 1:

Desk no. 2:
@boomboom, there are 8x 500gb and 4x 250gb. I got the printer from work, it was brand new, but they still wanted to throw it out, so I took it home :)
Warpy has a toilet roll on his "number two desk" o.O
I have a cold!
Sauer -- Where on earth do you put your mouse?
Well, it's right between the monitor and the autograph currently. Usually when I'm working I'll put the keyboard off to the side and slide the mouse out, but last night I was arranging a piece of music and using the computer, so I just reach over the keyboard and move the mouse with my wrist.
Mine is the coolest!

(And has the infamous thread-stretching picture...)
Ooooh Nokia ;)
Here's mine, in my miniature student room,
Warpy, are you in a college dorm too, or did I misunderstand?
If so, I understand your plight completely.
I'm in a student house, but I'm not a student! I couldn't decide what to do with myself after I graduated, so I'm living with my flatmates from uni while I look for a job.
I have the smallest room in the house and I'm 198cm tall. I got a bum deal.
That's kinda funny, but a tough break!
Warpy has a toilet roll on his "number two desk" o.O

well seeing as the smallest room in the house is normally the toilet that explains the roll ;)
edit:
my mess of a desk (and room)

Well, that was me when working on my Uni Project.
my mess of a desk (and room)
Holy mother of Christ. Where do you sit?!
Bet even Mr Merrygrim's moved out cos he can't bear the mess.
Man, what does that steering wheel do? Is that some kind of new game interface?
Man, what does that steering wheel do? Is that some kind of new game interface?
That controls the steam pressure passing through the brass valves of the CPU unit. When I need more power, I overclock the CPU by shouting to Igor to bung more coal into the furnace as I crank the wheel to up the pressure.
@big10p: Is that the machine you run Win98 on at 800x600?
@big10p: Is that the machine you run Win98 on at 800x600?
Yes, win98SE (Steam Edition). I am upto a massive screen res of 1024x768 now, though. :O That old 800x600 monitor went pop long ago.
Holy mother of Christ. Where do you sit?!
from my first post
and here i am sat 5 foot or so away on my bed the only seating in my room with keyboard on my lap so does my lap become part of the desk?
thats why i never use native 1280*1024 for net, i just cant see it from here, nor can i move closer (not without shifting alot of clutter and moving my bed or desk closer)
i thought about putting it where the xbox sits which is at the foot of my bed but thats bound to get covered in my to do laundry pile and over heat the bugger (or dry my clothes ;) )
Bet even Mr Merrygrim's moved out cos he can't bear the mess.
nope hes just changed corners and is behind me watching me as i type O.o
Ginger Tea has a proper desk.
What's that thing coming out of the top of your head big10p, or is that Igor?
its another reason i like joypads over wsad and mouse
i can only have one near by at a time without having a tv dinner desk infront of me. mouse is on a box by my feet at the moment so i have to lean forwards to get to it, or learn how to use a mouse with my feet ;)
edit:
at the far right of the pic is my usb drum kit which decided to be shipped with utter bleep software, the only way i could record what i was doing was with a cable going from the speakers to the line in (or either of my zooms now i have em) and at one point THAT was infront of the desk, it was a bugger trying to watch a dvd ;)
What's that thing coming out of the top of your head big10p, or is that Igor?
No, that's my toupee. Unfortunately it flipped up due to too much starch, just as the picture was taken.
This is Igor:
no hes I-gor
i wonder what an iGor would be like, going by apples track record ...
Here's mine complete with walnut oil and big chunky wireless light switch :)

Heh can see my little self portrait and GI Joes on the shelf. Good thing no one can see my 1970's Enid Blyton Magic faraway tree books :).
well its better than an al gore then ;)
Hey AdrianT what's that picture of my desk doing on your computer!!
Am I being stalked here or what! >:(
Oh wait ;)
hehe, nice one Foppy :)
:D Sorry about the suckyness of the quality. I didn't know the Samsung BlackJack took that bad of pictures. I would've taken out the noise but I uninstalled my Paint Shop Pro due to me thinking it would help my hard drive feel better.
-=Darkheart=-
Shouldn't at least one of those computers have it's out casing ripped off?
After Spaghetti dinner with Chocolate Milk;)
Also, my hard drive started going kabewm so that's why my case is open..

My desk cleaned off..

My video game desk of DEWM!!!!1!

My Mountain Dew picture i made using my Mountain Dew T-Shirt :D

The trebuchet on top of my computer that works better as a catapult
@big10p: Is that the machine you run Win98 on at 800x600?
That joke would be a lot funnier if the computer seen on my desk wasn't in fact running Win98 at 800x 600 resolution :)
I am actually to ashamed to post a picture of mine at the moment.
Am about to go out to a party but for this party I am taking a computer + speakers for the music.
However in typical fashion I realised I didn't have any thing ready, so I have my main pc with dual monitors on my main desk.
An old crt and the pc for the party on the secondary desk as well as my new EEE PC.
On the floor is my amp and two speakers which are in bits because they where broken and although I have now fixed them I am yet to put them back together.
And of course with all real paniced rushes there is the obligatory mugs and even a plate.
And that's why I won't post a picture. Hehe.
OMG Warner, you've not decorated since 1968!? The only reason I can even believe that's a fairly recent picture is the laptop's start button... ! :D
OMG Warner, you've not decorated since 1968!?
I was just thinking the same thing. :P
And there's me with just one PC (no mac), one monitor and one laptop. The shame of it.
my mess of a desk (and room)
I've never laughed so hard at a photo for donkeys!!! ;D
Amazing, truely amazing! ;)
Dabz
That, fellow programmers, is called 'retro'. Retro used to be hip a few years ago. So it is now retro-retro, which should be, by my calculations, be twice as hip. Sometimes, when you're really tired, the wallpaper starts to morph into other patterns. It is a cool effect and keeps relatives from staying too long, so I can get back to programming.
The speakers are -like myself- a novelty from the 70ies: they use motional feedback. They have a good, clean sound. Unfortunally, they lack a volume knob, so if I forget to turn the PC's volume down before turning them on, they play as loud as they can, which is .. pretty loud.
Nothing like a crowded college dorm room with horrible light conditions.
(which blows for me since I'm working on an animation {on paper} as of this post)

Easier this year that last though since I'm just using my MacBook Pro 24/7 with a secondary monitor (24" LG LCD. Got my PS3 hooked up to it also via HDMI), rather than last time where I had my PC hogging the desk with two monitors set up. (one LCD, one CRT)
......I need to organize this damn room.
Looks like a hotel room..
OK finally I'm posting my office pics.
Here's my old office (was in it until last Friday) but I had to move all my stuff out so it could be decorated. Note the pictures of my family on the wall to remind me that I have one!:

Here's my temporary new office for 3 weeks until I move to Vancouver. It's minimalist:
That is quite a sound system grey, do you listen to music whilst you code? I find I have to have pretty close to silence when trying to program stuffs.
@boomboom: I always liked having a good amplifier and speakers to listen to music on and it's currently hooked up to my PC. I mostly listen to music without lyrics that is upbeat to motivate me. Sometimes when working on something hard I have no sound.
@Grey: Do I have to consider as a coded message, looking the LINUX below the monitor...? ;)
@Moraldi. Nah, it's just an old book which is the perfect height to raise my monitor. I'm not endorsing the product ;-)
Here's mine:
