Wikipedia = chocolate fireguard?

Just wondering how often you find things you look up on wikipedia useful. The reason I ask is because 90% of the stuff i look up is computer related and the wiki description is so technical/obfuscated as to be useless. Only someone who understands the meaning in the first place could understand it. Or is it just me?

I tend to head to Wikipedia for the offsite links at the bottom when I want to find people/companies online that are related to a particular topic -- I rarely use it an actual encyclopaedia.
I find it pretty useful as a start point.

I often use it when trying to win a grand during the ads in Who Wants to be a Millionaire.
Obviously the quality varies, take whatever you read with a pinch of salt. In it's favour there is some very good quality, well written stuff on there, maybe you should try HowStuffWorks or similar sites if you are looking for more tutorial based info.

Depends what you're looking up, of course, but I've almost always found it to be useful for what I'm interested in finding out. I wouldn't base a thesis around the content of it, of course, but for just casually looking like a smart-arse it works a treat.

Yeah I think a lot of people get their perceived intelligence from google/wikipedia.
Wikipedia rocks. It's the place to go when you haven't a clue what your talking about.

I like Wikipedia, it's usually always quite informative and a useful resource. Not always the be all and end all, but usually quite thorough.
The trouble with Wikipedia is that it's extremely unreliable; it's difficult to know if what you're reading is true or a load of nonsense. Providing you bear this in mind, it can be a useful way to quickly get a lead on information - but you should always confirm the accuracy with reputable off-line sources before making use of anything that you read there.
The wiki is brilliant although a lot of it's content is
bollocks I find it really interesting. But as you say big10p, it's rather technical at times. I suppose it's a reference, rather than a teaching tool, so, if your in the know and need to reference it, you'll understand the terms used anyway :o)
Well, to be fair, the article that finally caused me to make this thread was tagged as containing too much jargon. :)
If you want something better than Wikipedia buy a subscription to Brittanica.
I find it ironic that whenever I use a dictionary, I can never make sense of the phonetic spelling/pronunciation.

Yeah, it's pretty confusing..
Wikipedia's great for one thing, and one thing only. Wiki-races. Two people, two computers. One starting Wikipedia page, and one end destination predetermined. They can't be remotely related.
The first one to reach the destination page first wins (or the closest possible if no such page exists), by clicking only on links within Wikipedia. Oh, and no using the browser's Back button. That's cheating.
