Where in the world?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Where in the world?
Thought this might be fun... kind of along the lines of those "How old are you" topics... except not.
A google map to show how diverse the world of Blitz users is :-)
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=114265310610304766818.0004586b0aef89b4ab23a * You need to be signed into google to edit it.
* Click on the
Edit button
* At the top of the map, you will now see some new buttons.
Click on the Pin button to create a new pin. You can drag it around, and edit the details.
* Just add a new map pin
in your general location (ie. don't place it on your house! :-p )
* Add a title to it with you username (how else will we know it's you?), and some interesting content - perhaps a link to your profile page, or your homepage, and maybe which Blitz product you use (for interests sake).
* Then hit
Done or
Save... and that's it :-)
It automatically zooms to the minimum width to show all the pins, so whomever edits second will have to zoom out somewhat :-p
So, where in the world (generally speaking) are you?
Edit button.... edit button....
Nope, it's all fallen apart right there. Can't find a button marked 'Edit' anywhere on that link, even after signing in. :o(
Ah... okay... how about now? :-)
... "so *that* was what that option was for"...
Thanks ziggy. Added. :-)
i cant see any edit button, so how im suppose to set my placeholder?
... is Carmen Sandiego?
That worked a *lot* better. :o)
Southern Hemisphere FTW!
North East represent! Me and dabz are the highest density of blitzers so far.
oh crap, I may have screwed up :P "placemark 10" can go.. ^^
I may have screwed up
Heh... it's gone ;-)
Added your info.
..am I there??..I think I am :)
ahh..LineOf7s..you are in Brisbane..i use to live there 4 years :) Sunnybank hills.. :) hehe
@Moraldi
Hah, you should probably add a *map pin* and put your details in there, rather than into the map summary ;-)
I think I screwed with it and renamed it...
[edit] Alright, nevermind, it seems that I have figured it out.
I'm in. Neat idea.
Thanks Brucey. I think it's OK now.
ahh..LineOf7s..you are in Brisbane..i use to live there 4 years :) Sunnybank hills.. :) hehe
Sunnybank Hills born and bred. Well, not born as such... but you know what I mean. :o)
C'mon. I think some are too scared to show where they live. :P
Or to lazy to wake up.
Mine again: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Carrer+de+Llu%C3%ADs+Sagnier,+08032+Barcelona,+Spain&sll=41.425421,2.173328&sspn=0.009364,0.019312&ie=UTF8&ll=41.424709,2.175057&spn=0.009364,0.019312&z=16&iwloc=addr
I hope I can get into the list now :D
Added - I think I win the who is closest (by distance) to Brucey...
Mark Tiffany wins a Brucey Bonus.
I live near Khomy Prime. What do I win (other than a potential stalker)?
Look what you coulda won..
Last time my home address was found out *someone* sent a threatening message across IRC, about coming to my house (and another gentlemans) and "doing me in".
I live near Khomy Prime. What do I win (other than a potential stalker)?
The reward of knowing someone within 50 some miles of you also knows of Blitz.
o_O
I only put my nearest town on there. I actually live a few miles away.
how do i post, do i have to sign up for google maps?
There's no signing up. If you have any google account, and you're signed in, you can edit the map.
well that explains it, i don't have a google account, i'll get one
Just click sign in and there's a link to sign up.
Sweet. Added my pin!
Where is my Google account?
Where is my Google account?
Think, Puki -- where did you have it last?
I don't like Google.
Pin added
:)
Great idea! Ive added a pin....
Pin added.
Done!
@Brucey, I'm gonna have to read your posts in a different accent now :)
I'm gonna have to read your posts in a different accent now
I dunno about that !
I've been accused of coming from
here before, which is probably a tad more accurate ;-)
Hey this is a really cool post... I know know that I live really close to Plash (Cincinnati, OH/Portsmouth, OH). Very interesting.
I don't have a google account, but everyone can assume where I am ;)
Big10p are you from Yeovil?
I'm not from Yeovil originally but I currently live nearby.
what edit button :/
So far, no Blitzers in Antarctica, Latin America, Africa, Middle-East and Central East.. but oodles o' Blitzers in UK..
When you log in the Edit button is in the left sidebar at the top.
yep figured it out in the end,
thanx :)
I didn't know Patrick Mcgoohan was a B3D user?...Nice to know where The Village is, at last.
Look out, Yan!

Too late...
I'm added! Bit lonely in south east England for blitzers.
Too late...
Doh!..Not again!..
(andy_mc)... I'm added! Bit lonely in south east England for blitzers.
Snap !... I'm in Brighton, where are you at ?.
Southwest is abit lonely too, just me and big10p.
Someone else from/near Yeovil?! :O
I think Grey Alien also lives in the southwest, unless he's already moved to Canada.
i think i get the middle of nowhere award
Added- Oldbury!
I find it sometimes impressive how far away all Blitz users are, to zoom in to those distant locations. First you see mountains and then there are actually houses there. And under those roofs somebody is also writing on this forum. ;)
I find googlemaps impressive anyway. It all looks so walkable and close, but from space everything looks small anyway..
Oh, there seem to be Blitzes in the Atlantic o_O
:P
Put mine up. Yay for Seattle
Updated.
Darkheart
Mines up there too
So far I win the 'closest to BRL' prize!
(Which is nothing)
..mann..I refuse to believe that im the only one in Asia...iiiihhh
Hmm. I see that Yahfree's only a hop and a skip away from Bellevue, Washington...

Yay.. Ohio.. is so, awesome!
Great idea btw Brucey.

LOL I live in Iloilo, Philippines. I would add it to the map but I'm not so sure how to do it :p
>Hmm. I see that Yahfree's only a hop and a skip away from Bellevue, Washington...
Yup, I'm close to there I just tried to put the pin thingy on the seattle label.
Western washington isn't so nice though, summer is the only nice time, 99% of all other days are wet and chilly(around 55 DF).
Looks like a majority of the blitzers thus far are from the UK.
Madjack, you should go visit Mark lol :)
NA, is japanese your native language?
LOL I live in Iloilo, Philippines. I would add it to the map but I'm not so sure how to do it :p
1. Get a Google account.
2. Go to Brucey's link at the top of the page.
3. DON'T TOUCHY ANYTHING YET.
4. Find the 'Edit' button on the left side of the page.
5. Find the controls in the top-left corner of the map area and select the one that looks like a marker (the second one.)
6. Place point, edit, and hit save when you're done!
Thanks :D
I've put my pin on the map... Looks like there's only 4 of us near the South Coast of England so far !.
So far, no Blitzers in Antarctica, Latin America, Africa, Middle-East and Central East.. but oodles o' Blitzers in UK..
Latin America accounted for ;)
Oh, just figured out the icon thing :)
>>So far, no Blitzers in Antarctica, Latin America, Africa, Middle-East and Central East.. but oodles o' Blitzers in UK..<<
There are some folks in Antarctica, but penguins and stuff??
Africa is now on the map :)
Africa is now on the map :)
...Because 'Stevie' moved Ziggy from Barcelona to North Africa for some reason?
(I also seriously doubt that antarctic pin, and noel Cower's "Carmen Sandiago" in French Polynesia.)
Ziggy's flown back to Barcelona... :-p
Why can't people even stick pins on a sodding map without buggering about? :/
done :O)
I believe that this thread should be changed to Sticky :)
Somebody removed my pin!!!!!!! Grrrrrrgh
Why can't people even stick pins on a sodding map without buggering about?
HAHAHAHAHA that's funny as I was just thinking the same thing
..mann..I refuse to believe that im the only one in Asia...iiiihhh
Well there's someone from S. Korea and 'yoko' is from Japan I think, and JA2.
is it just my misfortune or is the page getting slower and slower every time someone new is added?
Really surprising how many people are from England. Don't you have something better to do?! :O)
Now all we need is for Brucey to write an algorithm that determines the site of the next Blitz meeting - criteria being on land and the shortest possible average distance for all Blitzers (where average = mean, although median might get more people).
Oh, and I fully expect there to be an option to specify whether private jetpack or public transport is the means of transport... ;-)

The North Atlantic Ocean!! Blitz on a boat!
Is there a good reason why someone called "Dijster" has moved Mr TA Toad from Chichester, West Sussex to just outside of Brussel, Belgium?
Really surprising how many people are from England. Don't you have something better to do?! :O)
It rains like 360 days a year. What do you think? :o>
Inventing sport categories which make proper usage out of this situation? I know at least of one... ;O)
Is there a good reason ....
Was that a rhetorical question?
I'm guessing that the complicated interface is confusing some of these programmers :-p
Was that a rhetorical question?
well, not entirely. I thought it unlikely, but I don't know for an absolute fact that it's not a genuine correction.
Really surprising how many people are from England. Don't you have something better to do?! :O)
Yeah, FlameDuck's got this pretty much spot on. We really don't have much to do, and many of us are far too repressed to indulge in sports which make proper usage of the situation ;)
dijster aka DIJ is a Syntaxbomb regular. He must have made a mistake.
Pinned.
Added again, so what numpty nicked my pin?
I see that no-one has claimed the North Pole yet.
that's puki's place
England really does look massively overrepresented on the map...
(taumel)...Really surprising how many people are from England. Don't you have something better to do?! :O)
With the Labour government in power !... It's just about the only thing we can do, until they invent a computer-usage tax !.
It's just about the only thing we can do, until they invent a computer-usage tax !
You probably shouldn't encourage them.
Surely I'm not the only person sitting in Africa????? Come on guys!!!
Is there a good reason why someone called "Dijster" has moved Mr TA Toad from Chichester, West Sussex to just outside of Brussel, Belgium?
I accidentally moved a pin while I was trying to move the map, didn't know I could move other pins. It was my first time using it.
Apologies.
@CodeGit
Maybe you should team up with, hmmm, Mexico! :O)
LOL
Surely I'm not the only person sitting in Africa????? Come on guys!!!
Brucey left you for the band.
Have to admit the weather was better down there, and fruit was practically free, but at least now I'm not too concerned about walking or driving anywhere.
3DFish is in S. Africa.
He also appears to be not active..
Brucey, next time you down this way, look me up and I will take you flying down the wild coast. :) (No need to walk or drive - LOL)
wow 2 days and about 26 posts ago, the overwhelming responces to my question is simply amazing. again wow
I think all the drawings slow it down a tad... Perturbatio has been busy I see :-p
It barely works on my work PC, but opens fine at home on the Mac.
thankyou for the responce.
not sure but i think it might be partly do to my pc/isp, but some websites are fine and fast and others like and especially this google map site seem to get slower every time i goto it, so i was just curious.
It rains like 360 days a year.
Sounds like Seattle ;)
Am I the only Blitzer from Spain? I can't believe this...
Am I the only Blitzer from Spain? I can't believe this...
Not everyone bothers reading the forum.
From those who do not everyone read this thread.
From those who do not everyone has a login for a google account.
From those who do not everyone could be bothered to do so...
I'm sure that there are *MANY* more users around than you'll see pins on that map, not just for Spain...
Hm... mtnhome3d's custom pin is large enough to obscure half the USA at the default zoom level :-?
