Data Flow Diagrams - Tools

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Data Flow Diagrams - Tools

I was wondering for those who have made them before if they have any recommendations on any tools that simplify the creation of them. In particular the Gane-Sarson style of DFD's.

So far I have tried word, powerpoint as well as Visio and Smartdraw and none of them seem to really make the task any simpler, so I am thinking maybe a specialised tool might be what I need, so I thought I would turn to your lot for recommendations.

Thank you in advance.

There are a few mentioned in this thread:

In addition to JUDE, since you don't seem to be using UML, I also recommend Dia for more generic/specific diagrams.

one of bruceys modules does this, cant remember the name at the moment

Thank you for all the advice, am starting to check them out as we speak but of course any other recommendation's are appreciated! Especially about brucey's module, always nice to use some thing made by one of our own.

its called graphviz

Kind of, but not... It's more for displaying them, rather than for creating them. That's when you would use something like Dia.

On Mac, I like OmniGraffle.
I've never liked Visio.

Rational (IBM) have some nice tools, but a tad expensive for casual dev stuff... and possibly leaning more to the UML side of things.
